Happy Pi Day!

I hope everyone had a piece of pie to celebrate Pi Day! (3-14)! I’m still hard at work on PI IN THE SKY, but it’s getting there! It should be out next spring.

In fact, I have to get back to writing even though it’s almost midnight! No rest for the writer on deadline! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey, the Jeremy Fink movie is now available wherever DVDs and digital downloads are found.

And Sleeping Beauty, the next Twice upon a Time, book will be out in a few weeks (but some stores might have it now…)

Cheers!

Wow I love your books! I read 11birthdays and 13 gifts but not finally! It’s amazing how the books come out and get released so quickly. I thought it would be a year between books being released. =)

Time flies so fast that even I am amazed when itโ€™s time for a new book to be published. Thank you for reading! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Wendy,

That is very funny that you post on pi day, because my school had a pi day celebration!! My class also just finished reading “Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life.” I have read every single one of your books, and I love them all.

I’M A SYNESTHEIC (or how ever you spell it) TOO! ISN’T IT AWESOME!?!

      • Lydia V. on April 23, 2012 at 8:03 am

Yeah, haha, that’s really awesome! Did you find out you had synesthesia by reading “A Mango Shaped Space”??

  8. Sammy B. on March 24, 2012 at 8:19 am

    Hi Wendy,
I am really excited to read Pi in the Sky when you are finished writing it! Based on the title it sounds like a fun book to read and write. I was so thrilled when I found out that Jeremy fink and the Meaning of Life become a movie! I bought the movie the day it was released on DVD. I loved the movie but the book was way better. I told all my friends to read your books and they all did! You are a phenomenal writer. Keep on writing!
    Your BIGGEST FAN,
    Sammy B.

    • Wendy Mass on June 4, 2018 at 9:45 am

Thank you for sharing my books with all of your friends. The movie was a lot of fun but I have to agree with you, I always like the books better. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Olivia on March 25, 2012 at 12:48 pm

Hi everybody! Happy (late) pi day! Ok so I just started following this blog but I really just wanted to thank you, Wendy Mass, for all that your books have done for me. I would have never known that I was synesthetic untill I read “A Mango Shaped Space” and I never would have found my love for astronomy if it hadn’t been for “Every Soul a Star”. Almost all of your books have some sort of meaning in my life. Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

NOTE FROM WENDY: Thank you so much! That’s so cool about you being a synesthete (and one who loves astronomy now!) I’m glad the book could help, really!!! And hopefully it will help your friends and family to see what your colorful world is really like. :o)

    Dear Ms. Mass,
I am a competitive poetry interpretation coach at Fredericksburg High School in Fredericksburg, Texas. One of my students is preparing to perform โ€œOld Navyโ€ from your book, Heaven Looks A Lot Like the Mall at contest.
For Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) documentation, we must prove the piece is poetry. I would like a bit more information on this and am hoping clarification from the author would settle any questions that may arise at contest.
The book cover states, โ€œa novelโ€ฆโ€ Inside on the book jacket, text states, โ€œwriting in sharp, witty verseโ€ฆโ€ Various places on the web refer to it as “free verse.” The UIL would like to see โ€œnovel-in-verseโ€ for documentation but this book does not have this particular phrase. Would you please confirm that this is indeed a โ€œnovel-in-verseโ€ for our documentation?
If we cannot adequately prove the piece is poetry my student will not be allowed to perform it.
Thank you so much for your help!
(Please forgive using your blog, but I could not find any other way to contact you and contest is April 21. Thanks, again!)

NOTE FROM WENDY: YES, it’s a novel-in-verse. Have fun with it! :o)

  14. Cathy on April 11, 2012 at 9:14 pm

    Dear Wendy,
My children and I just enjoyed the audio version of Jeremy Fink and fell in love with your books! My daughter is reading Rapunzel in your Twice Upon a Time series and I just finished Every Soul a Star and my son picked it up. Is Pi in the Sky a sequel to this? If not are you planning a sequel, I’d love to find out how these kids adjusted.
    Thank you,
    Cathy

NOTE FROM WENDY: I love hearing that families read together. I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Pi in the Sky is about science, like Every Soul a Star was, but they aren’t related. PI is more science fiction. One day I might write a sequel to Every Soul that takes place at the Star Party the next year…not sure yet though. Thanks for writing! ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. nicole :) on April 17, 2012 at 10:47 am

hi wendy!! so, listen up-for a school assignment, we have to choose our favorite author (that’s you!!!) and do research about them. then, we write open ended questions for the author and type the response based on our research. however, if we actually get the author to provide the response, we get extra credit. if it is possible for you to respond, please do!!! if you can, i will send you the questions as well.

    thanks again,
    nicole

    • Wendy Mass on June 14, 2018 at 7:37 pm

Oh boy! I am guessing the assignment was due quite a while ago. Not sure if this helps but on my website you can find many of the answers to the questions you might have. Happy Summer!

  22. Robin Chapa on April 28, 2012 at 12:54 am

I JUST THIS MOMENT finished Jeremy Fink…. IT WAS AMAZING!!! I cried through the end…. I HATE things that MAKE me cry– it’s usually for too cheesy a reason and then I feel manipulated. But not this book– I was truly moved by the whole thing, and totally didn’t expect all the contents of the box.

I teach middle school English. I have been reading pre-teen books like crazy in every attempt to get my 6th graders to love reading– the more I read, the more I can recommend to them. However, I find the more I read novels that are age appropriate for them, the more I remember what it’s like to BE them, at that age, and your book was no exception. It was magical. It was meaningful. It was beautiful.

Thank you for that book. It’s going to be a very Mass summer for me…. I will collect as many of your books as I can for my classroom lending library and read them all. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

On another note, I’m writing this to you much past Pi day…. I didn’t get any Pie, sadly, but I’m greatly looking forward to May 4th (May the “4th” be with you….). I’m a book-loving, Star Wars geek mom and teacher who loves to sew….what can I say?

    ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Wendy Mass on December 10, 2022 at 2:41 pm

I’m so sorry it took so long to see this (understatement!) but I truly appreciate all your words about Jeremy Fink and am honored that you felt that way. I wrote that book right before I had kids of my own, so reading his dad’s letter would get me know in a different way. I should go back and read it if I want a good cry ;o). Thank you for all you do to inspire kids to read! I hope you’re well, and wish you the best and hope you see this!! Wendy

    Hi Wendy-

Just wanted to write and let you know that our mother daughter book club read Every Soul A Star and the girls had such wonderful insight into the book. The girls really enjoy your books and my daughter has read them all. I was wondering if you ever come to PA? We are in Bucks County and I know the girls would love to talk to you!

    • Wendy Mass on August 2, 2022 at 5:56 pm

SO SORRY for not seeing this until now!! I hope we connected when you first wrote and I am sending love to all the moms and daughters in the club!! SO COOL that you did that and I bet it created a real bond. Wishing you all the best!! :o) Wendy

  25. Adison N. on May 29, 2012 at 11:16 pm

Hi, I don’t know if you’re going to read this or not, but I just wanted to say you have had a huge impact on my life with your writing. After I read A Mango Shaped Space, I started thinking in colors, and sounds, and now my teacher says I am amazing at poetry. So thanks for that!

NOTE FROM WENDY: Thanks so much! That’s great that you write poetry–I think it’s the hardest thing to write, so i’m really impressed! ๐Ÿ™‚

  26. Adison N. on May 29, 2012 at 11:18 pm

Sorry about all those. I didn’t mean to submit so many oops. But here is what I meant to add: you are such a talented writer, that you inspired me to write books. They aren’t that great, but I still have tons of fun doing it. I love reading, and I especially like the books you write, realistic fiction but with the little taste of magic. I like to paint and draw, so as an artist it’s hard to find the right words to say, but I hope I did okay. Thanks again for showing me a new way of thinking and writing!

So glad!! I usually know the endings beforehand and try to find creative ways to get there–sometimes it’s not easy! (ok, it’s never easy! but usually fun! ;O). so sorry for missing this when you wrote it. I wish I had synesthesia too!
      Hugs!
