Help with next book…
UPDATE: 2 more days of bidding to raise money for those in need from hurricane Sandy in NJ..Over 200 signed & personalized books from your favorite authors. This is my listing for the Candymakers.
Pi in the Sky is off to proofreading! That means no more last-minute changes on my part. That’s always the toughest moment when you hand it in for the very last time knowing that you’re not going to see it again until it’s all bound up. There are going to be fun illustrations to go along with each chapter, which I’m really excited about. Never had any real illustrations in my books before! So this will be very fun!
Now onto the last book in the Willow Falls series…As I’m writing it, I thought I would reach out to you guys to see if there’s anything you want to make sure that I get in there… I know I left some things open-ended in the other books in the series and I’m going to make every effort to make sure that I tie all those things up in this last one. But there might be things that I haven’t thought of or that you might know better than me and I would love to hear what those are! I know I haven’t been very good at keeping up with posting all the comments you’ve been leaving on my blog and I promise as soon as I am done with this deadline (in only a few short weeks. AHHHH) I will get to that right away.
So, the sum up, anything from 11 Birthdays, Finally, or 13 Gifts that makes you go hmm, I wonder what happened there? Any small characters that you want to see again? Any gaps of time you want to see filled in? Nothing is too small to mention. Thank you so much in advance and I hope you are all enjoying the beginning of the holiday season. Much love!
PS. I found this cool free program called SELFCONTROL that you download and then you set it for the amount of time that you want it turn off your Internet (I usually do 30 mins at a time) and then no matter what you do it will not turn back on! You can shut down the program, you can re-boot your computer. You will be out of luck because it takes its job very seriously! Essentially it keeps you from wasting time browsing, or facebooking or emailing etc instead of working. Case in point, I got up this morning to work on the book, wrote about two sentences and suddenly I desperately needed to know how old Sean Astin was when he starred in Goonies. SELFCONTROL made sure that I couldn’t find out for at least 30 minutes. Awesome.
PPS. He was 13.
Candy-wrapper contest at an elementary school after reading THE CANDYMAKERS. I hope she was one of the winners! (and i hope she didn’t eat all the candy inside the wrappers or that’s one big bellyache! ;o)

me and my sis cant wait for u to come out with ur next book in this series is it really the last one? i hope not and please do not go into relationship land because i tried reading leap year and i could not because of all the junk in it so please keep them in the way u have been making them. if it is ur last book in the series will u please make movies to go with them. i hope my reply will get a reply from u, i do not doubt that it will but my friend skylie says that she has posted comments many times and all they say is reply being moderated.

And last what will happen( if it does go that far) about how Tara moved here and her starting school. please reply!
NOTE FROM WENDY: It won’t go as far as school starting, but you’ll see Tara adjusting, and she plays a part in this story, too. I’ll definitely aim to wrap up the different “couples” to see where they are at that point. 🙂

It wouldn’t count as a real movie, but for my Long Term Project this year, I am turning 11 Birthdays into a script. My problem is with Leo’s poem, the actual thing isn’t in the book, so I’m trying to figure out what to do.

Yay, I’m the 1st one to reply! Anyway, one of my favorite characters from the Willow Falls series (other than Amanda) is Rory. I don’t know if you were going to put her in the book in the 1st place, but it would be really cool if you can include her a lot. (I understand if you can’t.) So excited to read Pi in the Sky!! Also, it sounds like that program was made just for me… 🙂

Also I have a question that is not related that I have been trying to ask a lot of authors, but they haven’t responded. I know that you actually spend the time to reply to some of these comments (which I think is awesome and SO nice), so I am trying you. I recently switched from a public school, where all my friends were, to a private school, where I knew NOBODY. This was my parents decision, and they didn’t tell me until after they applied. I was SOOOOO mad. Now that I go there, and we wear uniforms, I have noticed that books about girls who go to private school are very scarce. (And there are a lot of us in that category.) Also, since I now go to a private school and wear uniforms, I am finding it harder and harder to relate to stories where people go to public school and are allowed to wear what they want. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like it, but I hate the stereotype that says that all girls who go to private school are all rich snobs who always get what they want. Sure, there are one or two of them, but we are NOT all rich. Sorry, I’m kinda venting my feelings out here, but it would be sooooo cool and mean sooooo much to me if you wrote one book where private school is incorporated (maybe even just a little bit, and not the way everyone does it).

This is a very good idea and I appreciate you sharing it. I will definitely keep that in mind. Until then I highly recommend the Mother Daughter Book Club series as one of the main characters switches from public school to private just like you! The author is Heather Vogel Frederick. They can’t talk for a whole year to relive the same day. So they use chalkboards.
I think its because if Amanda and Leo don’t talk something bad will happen, like in 11 birthdays when the same day never ended (until the end:)
I think It’s because they want to be able to do what they accidently did in 11 birthdays, but because they’re friends they still want to be able to communicate.

What happened to Grace?!!! I just finished 13 Gifts and had to leave poor grace in the hospital, Leo and Amanda on the brink of something important and Angelina still being annoyingly mysterious. It’d be great to find out what happens to all of them!

I was wondering if David ever meet Angelina? It’s something I’ve been wondering about as soon as I finished 13 Gifts. Does Emily solve her math problem? Does Jake Harrison continue doing movie roles, and also does plays like in 13 Gifts? Also, Do Leo and Amanda become a couple? There’s that little comment from Leo’s mom at the end of 11 Birthdays… Where did Angelina get her powers? I love all the Willow Falls books!Can’t wait to read the next book!

Anyway, I love all of your books. When I finish them I get this great feeling that inspires, changes me with the whole hidden meaning and that moment where every questionable moment clicks in my brain 😀 .
Onto your new book!!
I was hoping…
-You could include possibly another adventure of Rory babysitting because I loved the way she worried so much (something I would so do).
-Maybe you could incorporate the relationship between Tara and David, because I would love seeing them together.
-I love the hidden meaning that happens in the book, so maybe you do alot with that?
-I love the secret adventures all of the go on, like when they went to the museum place to get the apple wine, I think it was.(Sorry, it has been a while since I have read the books, I plan to reread them all).
-Also, I love the embarrassing beginnings that involve Angela like when Rory sat on the “rock.”. I would love, Love, LOVE, to read another one of those!
-Also, I love seeing how they end up helping kind-of-strangers like Tara did, for example, to let that ballerina into the dance studio by changing the clock.
-Finally, I would enjoy reading this a bunch more than I already know I will if you incorporate in their a food conclusion of what happened in the book, and then an epilogue. Like the conclusion first would be maybe like a paper that Tara “wrote” to her teacher about what she learned, and then an epilogue. Maybe the conclusion could be a poem the Leo pit together, then they put it to music, and then you would have your epilogue.
P.S. I hope that this isn’t to late to post this comment!! I know no matter what happens, I will always look forward to any new writing you have for all of your readers, like me!!

Here are the questions I would love to have answered:
What happens to David’s dad? Can the gang meet him?
Does the swimming pool hole ever get filled?
Why is Angelina’s life endless? Doesn’t she want to die/have to die sometime??
What happens to the family that Rory helps?? (the boy in the pet store, Kira, Sasha)
Why did Tara have to put on a play to save her immortal soul??
Angelina must have choosen the certain people to help, right?? Or is just random (how she helped Rory out of the drainpipe)?!
Also, maybe someone (Tara’s or Emily’s family) could have a baby!!! 😉
Or, maybe the chapters could be narrarated by each of the different characters like in Every Soul a Star! (which by the way how does Bree handle living in the middle of nowhere and how does Ally adapt to living in a city??)

Also, you should totally make a movie out of 11 Birthdays, Finally, 13 Gifts, and the new one. Jeremy Fink was pretty awesome!! Although, it wasn’t super similar to the book, it was still a really good movie! 🙂
So sorry this was so long ago, but in case you see this, so glad you liked the Jeremy Fink movie! That was a lot of fun. By now I’m sure you’ve found Graceful (which answers some of your questions and wraps up a lot of the storylines). I wrote a sequel to the Candymakers where Ally and Bree have a cameo so you get to see some of their storyline concluded there :). I so appreciate your deep insights into the stories and I hope the years have been kind to you.

I absolutely love all your Willow Falls B-day books, and I really think that how you tie all the books together is really cool. Here are some of my ideas.
-More Ray (and his aussie accent), Mrs Grayson, and the nice young lady who was the distant niece of Angela (and good a job at the bookstore)
-I think the father band idea is kinda funny, and I remember Amanda saying that she learned the drums from her father’s old books. Maybe all the girls’ fathers could have a scene with their high school band!
-Maybe there could be some letters in the books going between Tara and her pen pal…
-Please more Rory and her cell phone troubles… ;)There could be a scene at the end where everyone in the Willow Falls books watches Playing it Cool at the movies or something.
-All the ‘couples’, as other people said, and I think David should get to smell the apples, since he technically met Angela.

OMG THIS IS SO AMAZING I LOVE YOU’RE AWESOME AND I KNOW ITS TO LATE BUT I WAS READING THROUGH ALL THE COMMENTS (caps lock off now…) And I’d just like to say that I HATE CLIFFHANGERS from good book series because it just ends and your like “What the?!?!” and you NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS. And there NEEDS to be an Amanda/Leo kiss because they’re my favorite couple!!!!! Tara and David are super adorable too. I remember when you responded to one of my emails and my friend Sarah was sleeping over and we saw it and both SCREAMED so loud my mom got mad… 😀

I think the books are amazing and I have been waiting since I finished 13 Gifts for the next book in the series. My favorite book you wrote is Every Soul A Star and I have actually made my own Wish Book like Bree’s.
I think the sequel would be perfect if it had these things in it
– Tara’s pen pal sending her a letter for the first time in forever
– More Ray!
– The explanation about Grace and Amanda and Leo
– How Angelina got her powers

i really want to know what happened to connor’s sister grace, and i love your books.
oh man I know This is ridiculously late, and won’t be taken into consideration, but it’s just a thought I’ve always had that I don’t see mentioned here a lot. You know the family at the end of Finally… there is that girl Kira who 1. is their age 2. has connections with Angelina and 3. although kind of explained, is very open ended and not clear on connections, story etc.
so why isn’t the book from either her point of view, or at least a lot about her. that way it can bring in a new character without really bringing in a whole new one with a whole new story, but still have an air of mystery, while closing up and still focusing around the story of all the other characters. just a though.. what do you guys think?
also Wendy don’t take this as an insult or anything. 11 Birthdays is absolutely and positively my favourite book ever and you have 100% of my trust to make The Last Present awesome!

I am the librarian at a small school in Texas. I have a 4th grade student that loved Candymakers and wants you to write a Candymakers 2. He came up to me the other day and said, “I want there to be a Candymakers 2, but since there isn’t one I’m going to write it myself!” The next day he brought me his binder with his Candymakers 2 cover and on the first page it says…Dedicated to Wendy Mass for making this happen. I have a great picture of him holding both your book and his. He is a very dedicated fan. I would love to send you the picture, but I’m not sure where to send it.

If they made a movie out of the Willow Falls series, I would DEFINITELY try out for Rory! Personally, she is my favorite character, and my favorite book is 12 Finally, because I am turning 12 too, and think I might look a little like Rory . (besides the green eyes, but that’s what colored contacts are for!!)
Even if they don’t hold auditions for it, I would go watch it and buy the movie (if there is a disc) and watch it a MILLION TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love you Wendy!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

Hi Wendy, i am a really big fan of your willow falls series. I found 11 birthdays at the library when i was 11 and decided to read it beacause it looked intresting. Then about a year latter when i was about to turn 12 I had run out of books to read and found finally in the back of my closet. Last year for my 13th birthday my mom gave me 13 gifts not knowing that it was part of a series i have read. I have loved all of these books and have really enjoyed growing with the characters. I was wondering if a 14 one was coming anytime soon?

I also had a couple ideas ,fist this could be Logan’s grand daughter her name is Alice Sweets(she is a little shy but sort of has this very comforting glow and hate’s to she others cry ). She had wheat color hair like him and blue cotton candy eyes. She could be in the same contest he was in . But she had a tragic back story. This is how it goes . Logan had started the factory picnic and she ment a boy whose name is Jayden(is very talkative but has a little bit of rebel in him ) thay happen to both be 7 .He had brought some toys witch inculeded a toy car that he in to the caramal vat. His dad got really mad and he started crying so Alice’s dad tried to tell him it was fine also invited him back. She thougth he was sad cause he lost his car so she tried to get in(Jayden’s dad said he was never allowed back) when she felt the heat burn her skin she yelled so loud that the hole factory could hear . once thay got her out she had 3rd degree burn and her voice was permantely damaged it was amazing that she was even alive .But she forgot his name.5 years later she had entered the contest and got in but so did he. This time their is 3 new kids one is Jessica the happiness always lifts the mood the other is shy nerdy tommy whose twin brother also got in who name is peter (he is a little gothic but is really nice). so I hope you could make another candymakers.

I know this is WAY late, but I couldn’t ever get over the fact that if an opportunity to suggest something in a Wendy Mass book and have it put in and NOT mention anything! I’ve always liked the name Rory since the days of the Gilmore Girls TV show. Plus i liked how it could be either a boy’s name or a girl’s name and that gave me some fun stuff to write about. :o)

Hey! Just saying, but, I L.O.V.E the Willow falls books! And I never even knew about “Graceful” until today! I read the other four (and own three of them) a while ago, and I recently reread the first three. And I couldn’t remember the name of the fourth one (The Last Present, now I know) and so I googled it and that’s how I found out!
I could totally relate to most of the things Rory couldn’t do until she turned 12, and some I still can’t do at age 13!
I really hope they turn them into movies! I would SO be first in line if they came out in my little town. It’s not as small as Willow Falls, but still fairly small.
So, I’m gonna stop rambling now!

It would be so cool if in graceful the threat she had to face was like a relative or former protege of Angela who is super evil like she was the one who put up the force fields around grace on her birthdays. and like maybe there has always been a force field around the town while Angela was there bit once she left now she can come back and wreck havoc.

I don’t know if I want more books or not. It’s one of those books where it’s really really great but it already has an awesomesauce ending (see what I did there ????). But I do want to know more about Rory’s future. Who is the guy she meets? What did the kid mean by “Uncle Jake”? Why do Rory and Jake stay in touch? Does Rory break up with him when she knows there relationship doesn’t last? I also want to say that I LOVE your books and they would make a great movie or tv series. I own all five (maybe six eventually??) of the Willow Falls books.

Every Soul a Star is one of my favorite books. When I started reading your books, I was so absorbed in them, I couldn’t put them down! Wendy Mass, I know that writing books takes a lot of time and thinking, but you can always get through it. Please make more Willow Falls books. I want to know more about Tara and David. They make a great couple. I know in Graceful you wrote what happened in the future, but you could make a book saying what happened before the future when the friends were like 14 or 15. These books have attracted so many people, so please keep on going. This is my favorite series now! Please keep this thought in mind. We all love this series. The Willow Falls Books are AMAZING!!!! I just have a few questions after reading Graceful. What about Rory and Jake? What did the kid mean by Uncle Jake? I think Rory met her husband in Africa, but who is it and how did she still stay in touch with Jake?
Thank you for the great and fun questions! The idea was that Rory and Jake would stay such good friends that her kid would call him “Uncle” like a close family friend. I honestly felt like it wouldn’t be realistic for all of the couples to have stayed together and I’m with Jake and his career; this one seemed like the least likely to make it in a romantic way. I just wanted to let you know that you know that the Willow Falls series totally inspired me and they continue to do so. Also, I was born in 2010 so it let’s me see the life of a tween back then. I discovered your books in 3rd grade and me and my best friend loved them. It’s been a year since I’ve moved now, but your books are what keeps us connected!
P.S. Do you remember when you came to Millstone River Elementary School which is located in Plainsboro, New Jersey? You came as our Author of the year and signed books. Anyway, when I was in the schools library, I saw a beat up “Finally” on one of the shelves and when I opened it, I almost screamed when I saw it was a signed copy. My best guess is that some kid got it signed, went to the library, and then forgot about it.

So glad the Willow Falls books brought you and your friend together and kept your friendship fires burning. Yes, I remember visiting your school; it was such a fun day! The copy that you found may have been a library copy that I signed, every once in a while I find signed books at used book sales (usually other people’s but sometimes mine) and I’m not sure how to feel about it lol. Hi Wendy Mass!! I have been finishing Graceful and realized…THAT was the last book! Like the girl said on the top can you add more books in the series of them growing up? I love these books A LOT and I have reread most of them 🤣. Can you PLEASE brew up more of your writing magic and do 14 something?? Maybe an idea is that Grace finds out bailey has a history in magic or that Rory’s parents know about the history and magic of willow falls or that the ….and DEFINITELY add the other characters! Rory has always been my favorite and I like that she likes to help others. Maybe the title could be 14 wishes? 14 again? 14 desires? 14 dreams? Please write back and write MORE BOOKS! Is Graceful your last book for good? Thank you!! Have a totes awesomesauce day!!! (( Ok, I just read all the comments crossing my fingers you up to writing more books. It doesn’t seem like your done but..PLEASE write another book. I read hunger games and fell in love with it and started archery after it but this book is I can’t believe I’m saying this but it might be better….LOL : ) me and my friend LOVE to make movies and want to make one of the books! Maybe we will sometime! If I could I would walk up to a movie company and INSIST on a movie on this book and I bet when they finished reading it they would move on a movie ASAP! HEY!!! I just saw your other comment about what could happen after Graceful with “everyone” in town, and it’s SUCH a fun idea!! (can’t post it since not everyone has read the series but I love the idea!). These other ones are great too, and I’ve been thinking about Bailey! I really don’t know if any more Willow Falls books will happen, but I’ve learned to never say never, as the saying goes! a movie would certainly be fun though, or a TV series! Hi! I also really would like you to make another book after Graceful! I finished it, like, 5 minutes ago, and I really want to read another one! I love, love, LOVE the Willow Falls series!
