PI IN THE SKY is in stores now!

pi-cvrAs always, if you purchase the book through my local wonderful independent bookstore (Sparta Books: 973-729-6200 spartabooks@embarqmail.com), I’ll sign ’em, they’ll ship ’em. And if you order PI IN THE SKY before the end of the week (June 15th), I’ll toss in an added (yummy) treat.

But supporting your own community bookstore would be great, too. Or, you know, anywhere books are sold. Or borrowed (gotta love the library!!) :o).

On a side note, thank you for being so amazing. I love all the blog comments you’ve been writing, even if it takes me forever to post them. But at least the books are coming out quickly, right? Beauty and the Beast is in paperback now, 13 Gifts will be in paperback on July 30th, and The Last Present will wrap up the Willow Falls series on October 1st.

Here’s what early reviews had to say:

* “Full of fascinating science and clever humor, Mass’s story shines as bright as the stars of Joss’s universe. A high-stakes extraterrestrial adventure that’s as exciting as it is fun.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

“Could be a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy for kids…Science and absurdity frolic together to gleeful effect.” (Kirkus)

“The humorous banter and interesting physics factoids keep readers entertained…Mass’s latest [is] a unique, mind-stretching title for science-fiction lovers, and the entertaining high jinks and evolving relationship between Joss and Annika give it an even wider appeal.” (School Library Journal)

Happy summer, happy reading, safe travels, and wear sunscreen. :o)

When are you going to come out with the 14 book for willow falls. My fourteenth birthday on the 14th of july is coming up and really wanted to read it on that day.
    Happy Writing

October 1st! The characters won’t be 14 though, the book begins exactly where 13 GIFTS left off. πŸ™‚

Hey Wendy! I would say my name is Lulu but it’s just a nickname. I am a really BIG fan! I have Pi in the Sky sitting right next to me about to read it. But I can’t wait for The Last Present to come out. I never actually read books but thanks to you, I am a real bookworm. I only read your books! I had a question about the website above, how much do the books cost? If I had Finally (my favorite book of the series so far) autographed by you I’d die. So if you can tell me how much Finally costs it would be a great help.

    • Marita on June 14, 2013 at 3:07 am

I think it’s through the eyes of Amanda. I’m not sure though. If you look on Sparta books they have the front cover!!!!!!!

      • cam on June 14, 2013 at 9:58 am

She might do it like the Candymaker’s book and have it from many of the characters point of view.

I don’t care who the main character is I just want to get the book and read it non stop

          I don’t think it’s on Australian websites.

          • cameron (YOUR BELOVED CAM) on June 28, 2013 at 6:07 pm

I am so sorry. I do not like the cover as much as the other ones. The 11 Birthdays cover is my favorite. Don’t know why. Just is. The Last Present cover has like a green background and is sort of like the Finally cover. There is a a girl opening a present box and I think she has red hair. Who could that be? The girl is wearing a pink shirt. I don’t like it as much because it just looks dull to me. It is kind of blurry on the website. I hope it isn’t in real life. Also, the box is glowing? Why? Is it some kind of magic? I could believe that with everything that has happened to them. That is some weird stuff. But I like it. Always so much adventure. Sorry if this is so long. Anyways, got to go. I have to clean up the house. I just LOVE to type! Type, type, type. I will type the night away!

          • funke on June 29, 2013 at 3:15 pm

    Dear Mrs. Mass,

It is amazing how you write so many amazing book! I would love to be able to write like that sometime. I just finished reading your book “Every Soul A Star.” It was amazing. I am kind of like a mix between Melanie, Bree, Jack, and Ally. I just loved your book. Once I sat down to read it, I couldn’t stop. If i could make a request, I would like you to teach me how to “fly.” I looked in the back to see if there were any books I could read to find it out, but there were none. πŸ™ If you could at least send me a list of books that you know, that would be AMAZING!!! Thank you so much. If and when you get this meessage, I would like you to know that you are at the top of my “Favorite Authors List.”

    Faith, Hope, and Reading,

  23. Anna on July 9, 2013 at 4:12 pm

I absolutely love your books my favorite book of all time is the candymakers. I loved it so much that I want you to make a sequel. Maybe this book could be about their lives as candy makers.

In the movie I hope you have it showing daisy’s spy gadgets and the mansion.
I also think that Phillips notebook should be in the movie.
The movie should show Logan and his scars as well as Miles’ afterlife.

I am looking forward to reading more of your books as well as seeing the movie The CandyMakers.

  24. Hanna on July 13, 2013 at 2:53 pm

  28. Parker on July 22, 2013 at 12:36 pm

I just looked through the “Author Pals” section for the very first time. For a good deal more than half the books mentioned, I said “I read that!” and for Kirsten Miller I shouted “i’m reading that NOW!” Because I put down Kiki Strike not five minutes ago to come here. Then for the very last one, I haven’t read any of those books, but I JUST (Last night) started watching the show that Paul Feig created, Freaks and Geeks! I was surprised at just how many of those authors I knew!

That stuff is all cool, i think it’s just the short back and forths that the others were referring to. xo

  30. Pat Sainz on July 26, 2013 at 8:12 am

Did I miss something? What happened to Grace at the end in 13 Birthdays after she went to the hospital (and why did she go there)? How was her hospitalization the reason Leo and Amanda could start talking to each other?

    • Wendy Mass on July 28, 2013 at 11:03 am

Ah, all will become clear in The Last Present, out September 23rd. Not too long to wait, right?

  31. Caitlin on July 26, 2013 at 5:38 pm

Wendy I really love your books and I just want to congratulate you that The Candy Makers is becoming a movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. Annika on July 28, 2013 at 12:12 am

    Dear Wendy,
I think I’m the only Annika to reply:) I thought it was so cool to see my uncommon name in a book. I had a question for you: Why did you choose the name Annika? And also how do you pronounce it (Anne-ik-ka or On-nick-ka)

    Hope you can reply,
    Annika G.

    • Wendy Mass on July 28, 2013 at 10:57 am

Hi Annika! Glad to hear from you. :o) In my head i’ve been saying it with the “hard A” at the start, like Anne, but also really like On-ikah, like rhymes with Hannukah! What do you prefer? In the first draft I had spelled it Anika, but then people were pronouncing it with the stress on the “i” like it was the name ann-EE-kah, so i added the second “n”. :o)

      • Annika on July 28, 2013 at 10:40 pm

I pronounce my name Onika. Although when people see my name the usually pronounce it Anne-ika. But the name itself means grace or graceful either way. I know several other Onicka’s but only one Anne-ika.

Hope this is what you meant,

        • Wendy Mass on September 11, 2013 at 11:51 am

It’s funny, when i started writing it, i thought of her name as Onicka, but as it went along it became anne-ika in my head. Guess it’s up to each reader. (personally i like your way best. :o)

          • Anika on October 30, 2013 at 7:30 pm

My name is Anika (spelled with only one n, but also pronounced Onika) and when I saw that Pi in the Sky had my name (just spelled differently) I got super excited. Most people when they pronounce my name for the first time they say Anne-ika, too.

  33. Gia on July 30, 2013 at 9:44 am

I am SOOOO getting Pi in the sky for my birthday, as well as the Jeremy Fink and The meaning of life movie, I hope! They, at the very least, are on my wish list! I WANNA READ IT SO BAD BUT ITS NOT AT MY LIBRARY AHH THE INJUSTICE! Boo…

I love your books and can't wait for the final present! Even though my moirail, Equius, probably doesn't want me on this website, I love you too much not to listen to him! I really hope you post a new blog, you're my fafurite aufur.

  42. Oscar on August 27, 2013 at 10:13 pm

Hi Wendy! I absolutely love your books.

I just finished watching the movie version of Jeremy Fink (my favorite of your books AND the movie was great) and I was wondering how it feels to see a work of yours being translated to the screen. In other words, how did it feel to see your own work changed, pieces cut out and rearranged in different places?

I’m hoping they’ll make more of your books into films! I bet The Candymakers or Every Soul a Star would translate extremely well πŸ˜‰

Thanks for writing! Keep em coming!

    • Wendy Mass on September 11, 2013 at 11:43 am

      Hi Oscar,
It was really fun for me seeing Jeremy Fink on the big screen. I missed some of the subplots from the book, but i understood that they had to streamline it. I’m hoping it comes to one of the movie channels so i can stumble across it and be all geeked out. ;o)
Fingers crossed for a Candymakers movie some day! I’ll post news on that as it comes. πŸ™‚
      Thanks for writing!

  43. marisa on August 29, 2013 at 1:11 pm

Hi Wendy! I’m currently reading 13 Gifts and I love it! On pg 198 I found an error, you wrote “He must hae beeblooking at it pretty close to read the tiny print on the side.” When I think you mmeant have instead of hae. πŸ˜‰ I have also read 11 Birthdays and 12 Finally. I love them! Good work!

    • Wendy Mass on September 11, 2013 at 11:44 am

HI Marisa, Hopefully you have one of the “advance reading copies” where there might still be some typos?

  44. funke on August 29, 2013 at 4:58 pm

it good. cant get some wendy mass books here though I have to go on amazon and wait a week. but some are on my e reader. whats your favourite wendy mass book? ps how do YOU spell favourite??

    • Summer on August 31, 2013 at 11:40 pm

My favorite by its self book by Wendy mass is the candy makers

      • cam on September 5, 2013 at 4:45 pm

I love the candymakers!!! But I am not exactly sure why. I became a fan of Wendy Mass because of the humor in the books. But that one did not have all that much humor in it. I guess that a good author just can’t write a bad book.

    • Maddy on September 8, 2013 at 12:49 pm

My favourite in total is 13 Gifts , but for stand alone books its a tie between Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life, and Every Soul A Star
      And I spell favourite with a u : )

  45. alley on August 30, 2013 at 4:52 pm

  46. Morgan Kaler on August 30, 2013 at 9:29 pm

My name is Morgan Kaler, and I ABSOLUTELY POSITIVLEY can’t wait to read Pi in the Sky or The Lasrt Gift! (My dad actually introduced me to you through Every Soul A Star and we’ve been reading them together or on our own since!!! I cry every time I read A Mango Shaped Space (I think it’s my favorite!) I will deffinetly order any new books I get from Sparta so you can sign them! (And repeats that I don’t have signed!!

    • Wendy Mass on September 11, 2013 at 11:36 am

      Hi Morgan,
That’s great that you and your dad are reading them together, i love that! Poor Mango! Enjoy the new ones.
      Hugs to you!

      • Morgan Kaler on October 18, 2013 at 8:55 pm

You are totally an inspiration to me and I’m sooooooo excited that “tithe Last Present ” is finally out! I LIVE for the Willow Falls series. In 4th or 5th grade, “11 Birthdays” was a Black Eye Susan nominee, and I totally voted for it. I can’t wait to readable your new book about the taxi cab once it comes out! I think it’s super awesome that your working with a teacher on it, and I think it will be very interesting! What is it like to work with another author on a book?

  47. jaiden hathaway on August 31, 2013 at 6:32 pm

Youre twice opoun a time series inspired me to write a song about it

    • Wendy Mass on September 11, 2013 at 11:35 am

  48. Summer on August 31, 2013 at 11:36 pm

I love the willow falls series too but I don’t get on the computer enough so I didn’t know about the last present for a long time!!!!!!!!!

  49. Sarah on September 3, 2013 at 8:33 pm

Mrs. Mass, I’ve read Willow Falls and all your stand alone books and I’m dying to know if you are planning a sequel to Every Soul a Star. You’ve mentioned it here and there, saying that you will let us know this summer, and so I’m excited to see if you decide to go ahead and do it. Can’t wait for The Last Present! πŸ™‚

    • Wendy Mass on September 11, 2013 at 11:34 am

Sorry Sarah, doesn’t look like it’s in the cards. Pi in the Sky has similar “astronomy and outer space” themes if that helps…

  50. jodi on September 4, 2013 at 8:28 pm

Oh My God!! I love book fairs!!! At my school there’s a book fair this week and one of the books caught my eye. The Last Present!!!!! It was totally awesome! I cant believe you know who kissed you know who at the beach!!! And that other kiss at the end! Ahhh! I’m exploding with happiness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! πŸ˜€

    • Wendy Mass on September 7, 2013 at 11:23 am

Wow! It was at your book fair? The author is always the last to know. ;-). I’m so glad you liked it! For everyone else the book will be out September 23. XO, Wendy.

      • Summer on September 8, 2013 at 9:38 pm

Wendy so how come Jodi’s book came out before the rest of ours P.S I think my schools going crazy cause they said that the candy makers is for high schoolers only!!??:)please respond

        • Wendy Mass on September 11, 2013 at 11:19 am

          Hi Summer,
Candymakers is for 4th grade and up…maybe they’re confusing it with another book? I guess the book must be available in some scholastic book fairs already and that’s where she found it. Hang on, only 2 more weeks now. :o)

          • Summer on September 11, 2013 at 9:13 pm

I’ll let the school librarian know thanks ,summer

        • jodi on September 13, 2013 at 7:40 pm

The back of the book says -“this edition is available for distribution only through the school market” So, I guess only school book fairs got it early. Yeah it was a scholastic book fair.

  51. Summer on September 5, 2013 at 9:24 pm

I am so happy I just bought Pi in the Sky and I just got asked out by one of the hottest guys in school

  52. Summer on September 5, 2013 at 9:36 pm

I think I must be pretty stupid cause I don’t have a clue what BTW means but I think it means by the way someone let me know if I am correct!

    • Maddy on September 8, 2013 at 12:46 pm

No, your not an idiot! Yeah, BTW does mean by the way : )

  54. Cam on September 7, 2013 at 11:19 am

    Dear Wendy,
I know that this question is kind of random, but I came up with it while I was re-reading Finally. I wanted to know, how did you know about all of the behind the scenes movie stuff? Like with all the wires and the lights. I could never have come up with that! I hope you can reply!

    • Wendy Mass on September 11, 2013 at 11:21 am

      Hi Cam,
When i was out of college i worked as an “extra” for a while so it was fun to revisit those days with FINALLY. There weren’t any cute movie stars in the ones i was in, though as far as i recall. :o)

      • cam on September 12, 2013 at 7:09 am

That is so cool!!! I guess that means your an author and a semi-movie star!!! Even thouh you were just an extra you do totally deserve to be a leading role in a movie!

  55. Ally on September 9, 2013 at 8:47 am

    Hi Wendy!
I just read your book Every Soul’s A Star.
It was Wonderful! I loved it. I really like how you wrote it from the differnt points of veiw. That really worked well for that story! πŸ™‚ Do you think their will be a 2nd!? I really hope so! I really conected with your Characters in this book. And I really loved watching them grow.
Thank You for an Amazing book,
P.s haha, Ally and I are very alike as well hmmmmm πŸ˜‰

    • Wendy Mass on September 11, 2013 at 11:17 am

HI Ally!! (love it when people have the same name as in my books. growing up the only Wendy was in Judy Blume’s book BLUBBER but from what i recall she wasn’t very nice! I don’t think there will be a sequel to Every Soul a Star at this point but if that changes i will let you know. I miss those guys, even Bree! :o)
      happy reading,

  56. Vania on September 10, 2013 at 5:42 pm

I just finished reading “Pi in the Sky” within the last hour. I loved the beautiful friendship between Joss and Annika! Gah! Every time I finish reading one of your stories I feel post-story depression and happiness! I’m probably way too attached to your characters, haha. (Especially the Willow Falls characters–Ah!)
You’re my favorite author and your stories have their own cube in my bookshelf for easy access. πŸ˜‰

I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your stories. Thanks for being a writer; I hope to be one, too. πŸ™‚

(P.S. If you see this message, would you please respond? You could say “Bagel with cream cheese and Red Hots” for all I mind, I just want to know that you got the message. Thanks!)

I won’t get it for a while (Australia) but the release date is still marked on my calendar! I finished Every Soul a Star the other day, I can’t believe I never read it before. It is now one of my favourite books and I’ve only read it once! I would also love a sequel to it, but I would be excited for any book written by you. Thanks for being such a great writer!
