You guys made THE LAST PRESENT a bestseller!

How awesome are you all? You helped THE LAST PRESENT to turn up at #13 on the New York Times bestseller list its first week out! It’s all very exciting! Maybe I should listen to you and think about writing an offshoot of the series or something…hmm…

I’m still going through the comments on the last post, but I wanted to say how moved I am by your thoughts about the book, and the whole Willow Falls series in general. I think you’ll find I used almost all of your suggestions for what you wanted to see in The Last Present. So this was really a collaborative effort. πŸ™‚

I absolutely LOVE your books!!!!!! I only read the Willow Falls series, because I can’t pick up any other ones! I finished “The Last Present today, and I literally cried because they were over! I wish I had a friend like Leo, because most of my friends are boys, but the longest I’ve known any of them is 9 years (I’m 11). This was the best series I have EVER read!!! Could you please please please make more? I think you should make them from Leo and Connor’s points of view. I feel like, because they are done, my best friends are moving to a place where I can’t contact them. I really felt like I WAS the main character in each book. PLEASE make more!! Thank you so much for making the best books EVER!!!

      • Kaia on February 14, 2015 at 5:10 pm

Sorry, I’m correcting myself. You should write them from Leo, Connor, AND David’s point of view. Thanka again!!!!!!!! πŸ™‚

        • Wendy Mass on February 16, 2015 at 7:06 pm

So glad you liked Willow Falls!! Just wanted to let you know that Graceful actually will have ALL the main characters points of view! It was fun for me to get the boys in their for a change. :o)

Hi! Congratulations on The Last Present being a bestseller! I just wanted to say that I LOVE your books and think you are very talented! Please write a offshoot of the series!!! It would be cool if the book could be from point of view from Jake Harrison or a young version of Angelina! Your books are amazing and I think that The Last Present perfectly wrapped up the Willow Falls series! I can’t wait to see what great book you write next!

Oh my gosh Wendy Mass you are so amazing and a huge inspiration! Even though I’m in high school, you are still my favorite author of all time and I absolutely love your book 11 Birthdays. Haven’t gotten a chance to read your newest books yet but I definitely will have to find time for that! Ever since I was 10 years old you’ve been my favorite author and I have read 11 Birthday eight times and many of your other books multiple times. I even bought my sister her own copy of 11 Birthdays for her 11th birthday! I hope you keep writing amazing books and that someday I will get to meet you! (one time I sent my dad to meet you during a soccer game just to get my book signed which I still have) I love your books so much and I think you’re an amazing author! Thank you for your inspiring and entertaining stories. ~Ashia(:

.I’m only 9 and in fourth grade and ahead of my grade level so its
hard to find an apropiate book that’s not magic tree house EWWW!:)

    • joanne on January 13, 2014 at 4:58 pm

I love this series you can’t end may be make a story where isgrace finally get powers and a new evil kid comes to town and you now made David SEE THE SHOP SO THERE STILL MORE TO WRTE AND MAYBE THEY ALL GET LITTLE POWERS just please end the series

    • joanne on January 31, 2014 at 6:28 pm

I Think you should make a book from grace’s point of view and make them each get a little of grace’s power and now can do something special like amanda and leo can time- travel to any time just by tihk it and saying time to go and then time will stop , rory can change her power to anything she want every time she is nice and says time to change , tara can read people mind without them know and no matter how far away ,david can run though time if he goes at 120 mph and the time he says then is the time he travels too andwho is with him travels too and there an new kid who has dark magic name Quina and it would be called TRAVEL FOR MAGIC because they would have to go to her birthdays to make her nice

      • Wendy Mass on February 15, 2014 at 10:35 pm

Love your imagination!!! You should write the book for me!! Just may take you up on your suggestion…
        xo

  12. Kaitlyn on October 10, 2013 at 4:53 pm

Hi! I don’t know if Wendy Mass actually reads this, but I’ll just write it like she/you is reading this.
I fell in love with your books when reading Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life, and fell in love with space after reading Every Soul a Star. I so love your relatable characters who express a great uniqueness that I love! When I went to the library, and couldn’t find A Mango-Shaped Space on the shelf, I realized was because I was looking under W for Wendy because I feel like I know you! (Not to be creepy). Please excuse my many grammar errors. Thanks for your amazing books that make me feel like I can be in a fairytale, look all over for keys, and so much more! Please keep writing! =)

    • Wendy Mass on October 11, 2013 at 9:10 am

That’s so funny about looking under “W”! I love that story! And don’t worry about grammar errors, I make them too–only i get to have an editor to fix them! (and thank goodness for spell-check! I spell the weirdest words wrong, like “tomorrow” i get wrong all the time for some reason! ;o)
      hugs to you!
      Wendy

      • Mathilde on October 11, 2013 at 1:10 pm

I always spell “tomorrow” wrong too! I put in 2 m’s and only one r. Tommorow!

  15. Aubrey on October 10, 2013 at 9:48 pm

  16. Maddy on October 10, 2013 at 10:44 pm

I’m sure EVERYONE WOULD LOVE one last book in the Willow Falls series!!!!!! It’s my favourite series of all time, and when I finally got The Last Present, I spent 2 days reading it non stop, and when I finished I read it again! The book was everything I expected and more, which is why I was so sad when it ended πŸ™ . I was reading through the comments on the last blog, and I have to say I agree 100% with Addy. Like she said, when I finish a great book I kind of just sit there staring at it, thinking about everything. (She explained that WAY better then me)
Well, congratulations on The Last Present being #13 (like 13 Gifts! πŸ˜‰ ) on the New York Times Bestseller list! Please consider at least one last book on the Willow Falls series!
(By the way, the spine on the book is sort of the same pattern as the table on the front cover)
I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED The Last Present, and keep writing!!!!!! πŸ™‚

  17. Marita on October 11, 2013 at 2:15 am

Yay! That’s so great! Now why isn’t it #1? You so deserve it! Thank-you SO much for this series!

  18. Parker on October 11, 2013 at 10:32 am

    Hi Wendy,
I’m so happy that you have the last Present on the Bestseller list! You deserve it 100% I was looking a little closer at the list, and I was super happy to see not one, not two, but THREE of my favorite authors up there. (You, of COURSE, being my favorite) I also saw Out of my Mind (Sharon M. Draper) and Insurgent/Divergent (Veronica Roth). Keep writing, because it’s really only a matter of time before the rest of the world catches up to your amazingness and puts ALL of your books up there.

  19. Sophie on October 11, 2013 at 3:24 pm

Congratulations Wendy! The last present was a really good book. I really think you should consider writing more books about Grace. All the books you write are awesome, especially the Willow Falls series. Please consider writing more Willow falls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I literally just finished reading “the last present”. It was so good! I especially enjoyed “13 gifts” because my birthday is July 13th. I am a huge fan of your writing. I loved every soul a star, the twice upon a time series, and just about every book you’ve written. I’m 11 years old, and I started reading your books when I was 7. I’ve read all of your books at least 4 times each. You are my all time favorite author and I would love to meet you sometime. Please respond to this!

I just bought The Last Present! I didn’t know it had already came out and actually screamed in joy when I saw it on the shelves of the bookstore I go to! Now I’m going to find a comfortable place and finish reading this positively amazing book. πŸ™‚

  24. Katie on October 13, 2013 at 3:57 pm

I absolutely love your books, you firt hooked me with jeremey fink and the meaning of life it was so good that all the time I find my self thinking about what would happen if what I just did had happened differently, after reading that I read the candymakers which I had tried to read before but had to turn back itno the library,so I bought the book and couldnt put it down then cam every soul a Star which really touched me with all the emotions you worked in then I remembered I had a book by you I had bought a long time ago by mistake (a now happy accident) It was 13 gifts, halfway through the book I realized it was a 3rd book in a series (!!!!) I finished it then went to my public library and borrowed 11 birthdays,I showed it to my friend and realized I remembered her telling me how it ended a few months ago(!!!) Though happily I wasnt really listening bcuz there happemed to be a little girl screaming at the time (I was at a public park then) once I was reading it during the end of class and got so obsorbed in it that I didnt realize that she had dismissed the class!!!! I even went found myself vacuuming while reading! After that I hunted down Finally,it was hard! My school library and public library didnt have it, by the time I got it I realized it was worth the wait. After finishing I reread 13 gifts to touch up on my forgotten details, after that I went to barnes and noble overjoyed to see The Last Present under the “new books” section,it took abot 10 minitues of begging but my softy librarian dad finally agreed to buying it for me. I finished it a few hours ago and am still in awe about it all I was just in tears when the secrets started revealing themselves. Arw you going to write another about grace and her struggles to balance out being an average girl and being…magical like Angelina went throuh or just about her life in general I know you said you wernt going to but I am sure that your fans would LOVE for you to write about grace more. PLEASE all your fans would LOVE IT…(I think I am repeating myself…)
if you read this sorry about it being long winded but I just love you so much, please reply if you are actually reading this,
Question:Which one did you have the most fun in writing in the willow falls series?
    -Katie,12 yrs (almost 13)

  25. Katie on October 13, 2013 at 4:03 pm

Hey katie again I realized I forgot an important thing, after reading jeremy fink and he meaning of life I developed a sliht obsessiom with keys (preferably old) and now have a collestion of over 150 each unique and special to me each reminding me of jeremey and lizzy
    -katie 12, almost 13

It would be cool if it could be from point of view of Jake Harrison or a young version of Angelina! I just wanted to say that I LOVE your books and think that you are very talented! 28. MorningTime4 on October 14, 2013 at 1:59 am

I haven’t read The Last Present yet but congrats! I really seriousy need to get it (oh dear library, why do you make me grow anxious by the day? Waiting is the worst thing that you can make kids, tweens and teens do). I’m re-reading A Mango Shaped Space and honestly II just fell in love with the book entirely again! Seriously, whenever I go read one of your books it always feels like I’m greeting them and going with them. on their fun adventures. Probably the reason why you’re one of my inspirations in writing! I am going to miss Willow Falls once the series is done (a part of me is like, “Don’t leave!” :'( ) If there was a spin-off series that would literally be awesome! I’d love to see Amanda. And Leo. And Rory. And Tara. And Grace. And Daxid. And Angelina. And– okay, now I’m starting to get a little carried away here. Can’t help fangirling. πŸ™‚

    Happy writing!

    xoxo Morning

P.S. Sarara said something about a sequel to A Mango Shaped Space; I know it’s a stand alone book but it would be amazing if there was a sequel. xD

Omygoodness, this is amazing! When I heard about The last present, My Best friend and I split the cost, like Bitsy and Mabel (those are the names right?) from Jeremy Fink. We each read it in one night and loved it to death. I find it funny that it was # 13 because the characters are 13 and such. I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope you write an offshoot. I think it would be amazing and you can tell whoever makes the decision about whether or not you get to publish it that at least 2 girls will buy a copy and make all their friends buy it to. Sorry if I sound obsessed, I just love your books so much, they’ve been such a blessing in my life. God Bless You Wendy Mass!

I WILL DIE IF IT DOESN’T COME TO MY LIBRARY. Honest. DIE.
Probably going to order Pi in the sky from Walmart, but I can’t wait to read and see if my suggestion made it in there! (Something about Sawyer and is awkwardness if I remember right.)

  35. Amanda on October 17, 2013 at 12:20 pm

    Dear Wendy Mass,

Your novel Every Soul a Star was a brilliant mix of wonder and creativity. The entire book made me feel like I was living the lives of Ally, Bree, and Jack, even though I knew what was going to happen a split second before it did. Just the same when the astonishing events did occur I felt that it was the first that i had ever known or heard about them. Overall your book was excellent and an anticipating read.

One thing that troubled me about our book was the Stela’s son. Though he was very entertaining and humorous, I thought that his role was insignificant and could have been replaced. I would like to know your thought process when you brainstormed him and how he impacted the story. Another suggestion that I have is about the word eclipse. I understand that you wanted to emphasize the fact that the eclipse was an important event, but I felt that after a while the word was getting too repetitive and I was getting tired of reading it. Overall, I did not have many questions or comments about the book because, as i already mentioned, you are a great writer and your book was very well written!

Throughout the book I felt that the characters that I most connected with were Jack and Ally. I connected with Jack because I like to try new things and make the most of bad situations. In your novel, Jack has a chance to go to the Moon Shadow campground. He takes it and in the end it was one of the best decisions that he could have made. Also, I connected with Ally because sometimes I have a hard time accepting the facts. When Ally had to move, she refused to think of what was going to happen to her and decided not to ignore it. With the assistance of Bree and Jack, she learned to accept the fact that she was moving and look forward to it. What I learned from Ally is friends can help you get through hard times and admit the road ahead.

In complete, Every Soul a Star is an excellent novel. I made connections with the characters, felt like i was living in the book, and dug deeper to think about what I would have done differently. This was a great book and I will continue to read more and more of your books. Hopefully, they will all be as good as this one was.

    Yours Truly,

    Amanda

Congrats!!! I read The Last Present and it was awesome! I thought I had it figured out, but then the ending totally surprised me. That’s one thing I really like about your books, the ending always turns out differently than I predicted. I’d love a sequel to Every Soul A Star, that would be awesome. I’m sure whatever you write next will be great. πŸ™‚

I’m reading that book now! I love how you can see so many of the characters from pervious books in this sequel. I’m so excited to finish it!

  39. cookiemonster_11 on October 17, 2013 at 9:13 pm

I couldn’t help but notice that all of Wendy Mass’ books aren’t showing the eyes of the characters. Even in the sleeping beauty book “The One Who Took a Really Long Nap” she is wearing a sleeping mask. Maybe the publisher is showing something that this book will be extraordinarily special.

  40. cookiemonster_11 on October 17, 2013 at 9:19 pm

Congratulations on your bestseller book! It deserves to be on the list! It’s so good and I haven’t even finished it yet! I couldn’t believe it that there was a new Willow Falls book! I love that series, but didn’t remember that Ms. Mass mentioned that when she visited our school a few months before the end of the year last year.
    I just want to say:
Wendy Mass I really admire who you are as a writer and a person. I enjoy having a role model to look up too that also enjoys writing!

I want to be an author when I grow up and I hope to be as strong with my writing as you are. Congrats on the best seller list, you totally deserved it on this one!

Hi! I absolutely LOVE all your books!! I can’t wait to read The Last Present!!! I am obsessed with Willow Falls, and you have inspired me some much! I have tried (and failed) to write many novels because of you, but only end up with short stories. any tips on how to make it longer? Oh, and PLEASE make another Willow Falls book!!! I almost died when i thought 13 Gifts was the last book!!!

  44. Carli on October 24, 2013 at 4:23 pm

I read it the second day it came out. I LOVED IT. it was a great way to sum up the incidents that lead up to the book. I fell in love with 11 birthdays the first time i read it back in 5th grade. I love how I can relate to Rory’s wishing to grow up, and thirteen gifts kept me guessing until the end, and the last present was what I expected and WAY more, that’s why I was sad to finish the series .I really love your books. The Willow Falls Series is my favorite series of all time. Maybe you could write a new series about Grace and her training with Angelina. Congrats Wendy Mass and keep writing πŸ™‚

  45. Joy on October 25, 2013 at 5:29 pm

I love your books Mrs. Mass ! I first read The Candymakers when I got it for my birthday and I loved it so I read more and I was hooked! Thanks for writing these. I cant wait to read the fourth Willow Falls book!!!!

  46. Megan on October 26, 2013 at 1:48 pm

Congratulations on making the top thirteen! I am sad that the series is ending, however. An offshoot would surely have a reception just as enthusiastic as The Last Present had, so think on it. πŸ˜‰ As I’ve been reading the Willow Falls series since I was eleven (my age matched the characters’ until the last book), I must commend your skill; you brought Willow Falls and its characters to life so perfectly that it felt as though the town was real. Putting down The Last Present felt as though I were saying a bittersweet goodbye to some old friends. No doubt I’ll be reading it again, though! As an aspiring author, I’m sure to pick up a few things from your writing.
    Many thanks for the adventures,
    Megan
P.S. Imagine my surprise when I learned that Angelina and Grace share my birthday! It really brought the connection to a personal level, even if it did mean I stopped wishing I’d been born in Willow Falls! πŸ˜‰

  48. Victoria on October 26, 2013 at 9:44 pm

I absolutely loved this book! I really like a lot of books, but without a doubt the Willow Falls series are my favorite books in the world! I loved how you included all of the characters in the action of it all. I have a hard time putting down a good book, but I can never tear myself away from these books, even after reading then several times. I have signed copies of the first three books, and I can’t wait to have my own copy of this one, too! I am really glad that you wrote these four books, they always brighten up my day. I really like how you wrote the last book in Amanda’s point of view. I think that it really tied everything together. I also really loved the scenes when Amanda and Leo had some, shall we say, “special” moments (especially the ocean & beach scene). I don’t usually like that sort of stuff, but those were some of my favorite parts of the book. Oh who am I kidding, the entire book is my favorite part! Have I mentioned that these are my favorite books! Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of other really great books, but these will always have a very special place on my bookshelf (and in my heart)! I hope this doesn’t sound crazy, it’s just that I really love these books. You have done an amazing job, and personally I think that this book should be number one on the list! Keep up the great work!

I LOVE your books and I have read all of the Willow Fall series in which I thoroughly enjoyed every copy cover to cover at least twice (sometimes even more:-) I think it would be awesome if they came out in movies and I would definitely come see it in theaters. I am so happy for you to get it #13 on the best selling list…what a big accomplishment! Do you think there will be a movie? And do you know what the expected date for the Candymaker’s movie to come out? Thank you so much for writing such amazing literature for young girls/boys to read!

I really want another birthday book because 11 birthdays has been my favorite since I was in fifth grade( 2 years ) but I realized when I saw it and it said “The LAST Present” I knew this was the last. I really hope you can think of more ideas for willow falls books because I love them all! Especially Amanda, Leo, and Ray. You are the best writer and I don’t care when I get too old to read these books! If you make another, which I’m really, really, really hoping for, I’m gonna read it. Keep being the best author ever!❀

I am planning on reading the rest. The Last Present is the best book I have ever read in my whole entire life!!!! Thank you SOOOOOO much!!!!!!! I think you should make another series like willow falls I really enjoyed it.

  58. Lydia on November 9, 2013 at 10:31 pm

    Hey Wendy!
I finished The Last Present! Best Willow Falls Book EVER! Its SO good, but SO sad! I never, ever, ever, thought of Angelina that way! And Grace….. just WOW! I really love how you ended the series, how you told us the secrets. I really wish that the series could continue, but I understand why it can’t. Each of the books involved Angelina and her powers, and it can’t really be about that anymore, (I won’t say why because I don’t want to spoil it) so I really DO NOT know what the next book would be about! I guess it could be about Grace, but it wouldn’t be right without Angelina. But could you right a new series, a follow up series, that still has Leo and Rory and everyone, but when they’re all a little older, and Grace sort of takes the place of Angelina? I would really like it if you could!
Thanks, The #1 Willow Falls AND Wendy Mass Fan, Lydia

OMG!!! I LOVED IT! I kinda knew Amanda and Leo would come to that, but I didn’t know it would be this soon… πŸ™‚ And the truth about Angelina was mysterious too, I thought it would stay secretive like forever! So much of my questions were answered in this book, thank you πŸ˜€

I absolutely adore your books, I finished the Willow Falls series a was sad it was over! Luckily I found the twice upon a time series, I love princess Rose! You create such likable characters. I suggest you make more twice upon a time books. Oh and if you can turn all your books into movies

  63. U on November 16, 2013 at 10:15 pm

    Hi πŸ™‚
I just finished reading The Last Present, and i must say, I loved it! I’m probably not your typical audience, (being 18) but for some reason, I always enjoy things that are not really for my age. Like cartoons.. yup. cartoons are the only thing i watch on TV. Speaking of cartoons, I had one question, Ms. Mass.. While i read the last book, i couldn’t help but notice the subtle references to a specific cartoon I absolutely love. The part about Grace being in a “catatonic” state, and “we’ll laugh about this some day” and the part about the smile of the “Cheshire cat”. I feel weird even suggesting this.. but did you get these ideas all from the same place? A specific DC cartoon that I’m not going to mention because its highly possible that you have no clue what I’m even talking about and my whole saying this is pointless? I like to think that its just a coincidence, but after reading all the books in such a great series, I’m not sure i believe in coincidences anymore πŸ˜‰
Other than this, I did want to say, you should definitely write a sequel.. I love your stories, and ill probably be reading them no matter how old i get!
If you do answer my question, thanks in advance! If not, I’m just happy to know that I can actually tell you how much i enjoyed reading all your books. Thanks again.

    • Wendy Mass on December 10, 2022 at 3:57 pm

Lol about coincidences!! I know it’s been forever since you wrote but I just wanted to reach out and thank you for everything, I always read my childhood books after I was a child as well! While I’m not quite sure which DC cartoon you meant here I’m pretty sure it wasn’t based on anything else but if you do see this, feel free to let me know what you meant. Big hug to you for being you!!! – Wendy

  67. Haley Michelle on November 23, 2013 at 1:16 pm

    Dear Mrs. Mass;

In 2009, an eleven year old girl walked into a bookstore hoping to purchase the fourth book in the Septimus Heap series. When she walked out of the book store twenty minutes later, it wasn’t Queste that she had cradled to her chest. It was a book by an author she’d never heard of, but she already knew she was going to love it.

The book was 11 Birthdays, and the author was you.

That evening, the girl stayed up until three o’clock in the morning to finish 11 Birthdays, and when it was over, she rearranged all of the books on her bookshelf, fitting 11 Birthdays into the most accessible place. When she woke up the next morning, she pulled it back off of the shelf and began reading it again.

Over the next year, she read the book exactly eleven times. And when she walked into her local library one hot summer day in 2010, the only book she picks off the shelves is Finally. She’d waited a long time for this. She knew it was going to be just as good.

That day, as she sat in the car while her mother went about her errands, she squealed not-so-quietly as her favorite characters from 11 Birthdays made appearances, and when she finished the book before dinner that evening, she picked 11 Birthdays back off of her shelf and began reading again.

In 2011, she turned thirteen, but still jumped up and down excitedly when she purchased a copy of Finally, and swore she’d keep it in better condition than her copy of 11 Birthdays, which was, by then, falling apart from being read so many times.

For Christmas in 2011, she received 13 Gifts, and stayed up late into the night reading it. When she woke the next morning, she cradled the first two books and the Kindle the third was on, and she waited. She waited for two years.

In November of 2013β€”yesterday, in factβ€”the girl’s mother brought The Last Present and The House of Hades home for her from the library. The girl had been waiting for The House of Hades for a long, long time, but just like that first day in the book store four years ago, she chose the Willow Falls series over anything else. She laid aside NaNoWriMo, and she prepared herself.

Before reading it, she concluded that, at fourteen years old, the end of the Willow Falls series was also the end of her childhood. She pulled her worn-out copies of 11 Birthdays and Finally, and powered up her Kindle, so that she had all three books surrounding her as she began the process of reading the fourth.

‘This isn’t really the end,’ the girl thought to herself. ‘I can always reread them.’

Nevertheless, when she finished The Last Present seven hours later, she cried. She probably sent a billion texts to her best friends, raving about how her childhood was finally over, but she was happy about it. Because everything had worked itself out in a way that she could never have imagined. Because Leo and Amanda had finally gotten together, because the book was from Amanda’s point of view again, because there was time travel, because Angelina D’Angelo got her happy ending.

But, mostly, because The Last Present began in the same place 11 Birthdays had. Willow Falls Birthing Center.

This morning, when the girl woke up, she cradled the book in her lap, and smiled ruefully. She’d grown up with these characters, and maybe their story was officially over, but in a wibbly-wobbly way, it really wasn’t over at all.

Because the girl could always read the books againβ€”and she knew she would, in the near future.

The girl’s name is Haley, and that girl is me.

Today, I stand having followed these characters through the toughest time of my lifeβ€”middle school. Three months ago, I began high school knowing that there would be no fifth book that featured another girl finding herself with a magical twist. But I knew I’d always be able to reread these books, and your other ones.

Three years ago, I read A Mango-Shaped Space, and I cried over a book for only the second time in my life (the first time was Pictures of Hollis Woods, which is completely understandable). When I read Every Soul a Star and Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life three years ago, I was reminded that even though life doesn’t really have magic like in the Willow Falls series, there is everyday magic.

So, at fourteen years old, I’m coming to the close of the first semester of my freshman year of high school, and I know there won’t be another book in the Willow Falls series. But I also know that there are still other books by you, Mrs. Mass, that I haven’t read yet, and I always have the power to reread the ones by you that I already have.

I’m turning fifteen in three weeks. And that’s relevant to this comment because I find it absolutely astounding that you’ve figured out a way to completely enrapture the attention of teenagers, as well as the age range the books are actually geared towards.

I’m not the same little girl who walked into that one bookstore so many years ago and, on a whim, bought a book about a girl whose birthday repeats itself just because the storyline sounded fantastic. But I think that, emotionally and mentally, your stories will always be ingrained in my life. They’ve helped me through some of my hardest days, just by being there and presentingβ€”especially in A Mango-Shaped Space, The Candymakers, and Every Soul a Starβ€”real emotions that I have always been able to relate to.

This wasn’t supposed to be this long, honestly. And I won’t keep you any longer.

Thank you for writing 11 Birthdays, Mrs. Mass. It’s changed my life.

    Sincerely,
The girl who fell in love with words because of you.
    ~Haley Michelle

You are my all-time favorite author! I am a 6th grader so it’s super fun to relate to the Willow Falls characters. (My friend’s name is Tara and she’s the tallest girl in the grade! She also was the girl who got me so into you, coincidence? Not in Willow falls.) I love how you make the series realistic fiction but you twist the plot so well that only after you finish reading, did i realize it was fantasy! They plot was so creative and ingenious. I have read 9 of your books and loved every single one of them.
Thank you for writing so many great stories. Thank you for inspiring me to want to be an author! Thank you for being truly amazing!

Hi! So I am in LOVE with the willow falls series, and so is the rest of my family. When my brother and I were young, my dad would always read us a book before bed. As we got older, our schedules got busier and we stopped reading at night together. When we found out about 11 birthdays, we managed to find time to read it together, and now we make time to read together whenever a new willow falls book comes out. I love spending time reading and cuddling in bed together and your books are the only ones we read! We would LOVE LOVE LOVE it if you kept going on with the series. I’m dying to know what happens to Angelina and grace.
And CONGRATS on the ny times!!!

I might write some short Grace stories, and of course I’ll let you know on the blog, but I’m not sure when that would be. I tried to stuff a lot into the Last Present since I really planned that to be the last one…
Please give yourself and your whole family a big Thanksgiving hug for me and I hope you’ll keep reading together.

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!

I’m so glad your daughter enjoyed them! Turning off the TV, that’s big stuff! (in my house it would be putting down their kindle fires, which they are not actually READING on ;o). The Last Present is supposed to wrap up the series. I might do some short ebook stories, but honestly I’m not sure yet. Maybe she’d like some of my others, though. And so far the rights to the books are up for grabs, movie-wise. Thanks so much for writing me and hugs to both of you! :O)

  77. Alex on November 27, 2013 at 5:14 pm

Hi there Wendy, my name is Alexandra and I just finished reading The Last Present and saw you had a web site and immediately wanted to write you. I LOVED the last present and thought it was the best in the series. I didn’t put it down for two days, and now that I have finished it, I am so sad to hear it is the last of the series.
I have always been a fan of yours ever since my vacation I took 2 years ago with my family where I first read one of your books 11 birthdays, and for the whole trip I read it and took it with me wherever I went. Now I have read almost all of your books and love every single one. I have always been a slow reader and very picky about books, but then after reading your work, I read anything you write. Honestly I have never finished a whole series before, until the Willow Falls series!
You are my inspiration to not be afraid to put your ideas out there and if one person doesn’t like it, it doesn’t matter. Whenever I am in class I just put on a smile and pretend to be you. So thank for being you Mrs. Mass and I can’t wait for your future books and sequels to come out. πŸ™‚
    sincerely, Alexandra
P.S. Sorry to talk so much, I just can’t believe I am talking to you! πŸ™‚ Oh, and congrats on the best seller, you definitely deserve it! πŸ™‚

Hi! I guess it’s a little late to comment, but I just want to say that I loved The Last Present. I wasn’t sure whether I should buy it or not, because I don’t usually buy hardcover books; but I knew I hadn’t made a mistake in purchasing this one. The colors were amazing – lots of applause to whoever designed the colors on the cover. And that’s only the first amazing thing about this book. πŸ™‚ I loved the little inside jokes, like when Rory mentions that she had too much coffee once. That made me laugh. I waited 2 years for this book, and was most definitely not disappointed! It deserves to be a bestseller.
One question – is the bunny THE BUNNY? (that is, was Kyle R. secretly Connor’s bunny? Or one of her kittens?)

    • Wendy Mass on December 6, 2013 at 11:10 pm

Hey there! Love that you caught the bunny thing! I tried to time it right so he’d (she’d) be Kyle, but i think it turned out better as one of its babies. I’m so glad you took the plunge and got the book and enjoyed it. xo

  80. Hannah Schmidt on December 1, 2013 at 5:21 pm

OMG, it would be amazing if they made movies for this series! please please please!

  81. piper on December 1, 2013 at 6:59 pm

    AWESOME!
my favorite book is 11 birthdays, then 13 gifts, then 12 finally, than the last present, but they were all amazing!
you should so make a second series.
you could make it about life for Amanda, Leo, Rory, Tara, & David (and maybe Jake too) after everything. maybe they could all get stuck in time like in 11 birthdays or something.
    but PLEASE writ another book!
I normally don’t like “girly” books like this but your books were really good and your a really great author.
I know your probably not gonna read this but still…
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE write another book.
i’m kind of running out of good books.

thanks for writing in the first place.

    P.S. please write another series
P.P.S. if you do make another series (or book) you shouldn’t make it about grace you should make it about Amanda, Leo, Rory, Tara, & David (and maybe Jake to)

    • Aaron on December 12, 2013 at 12:14 am

Lol I’m a guy to and I’ve read the series on my kindle like 2 or 3 times in a row lol

      • Aaron on December 12, 2013 at 12:17 am

There should be a new book about everyone from willow falls but in like 20 years in the future

      • Wendy Mass on December 16, 2013 at 2:50 pm

Awesome!! Love to hear that! πŸ™‚

        • Aaron on December 16, 2013 at 10:57 pm

    • Wendy Mass on December 6, 2013 at 11:08 pm

I may have some news on that in a few weeks…stay tuned.

  83. Grace on December 6, 2013 at 12:52 am

Hi Wendy , I loved the willow falls series !! I could totally relate to the characters. I. Agree with maddie I think that you should make another book in the willow falls series. Please consider a fifth book in you willow falls series I would love to figure out how grace likes having those abilities and would love to hear if David finds out about Angelina’s abilities.

  87. Caroline on December 11, 2013 at 8:48 pm

It took me three or four days to read this book, but that’s only because I had other stuff going on. I loved it soooooo much. I got it on the day it came out, and all my friends were like,” What? Where did you buy it? Can I read it? It came out already?” And I was like, “What do you mean ALREADY?” I’ve been so bored waiting for it to come out!”

OH MY GOSH!!! I would be so happy if Wendy answers my question at the end. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR BOOKS!!!!!! Right now I’m reading Finally and 13 Gifts before I read The Last Present. The first book I read that you wrote was 11 Birthdays. I loved it and decided that you are my favorite author!! I’ve also read The Candymakers, A Mango-Shaped Space(which by the way, congrats on the award) and Leap Day!!! Loved A Mango-Shaped Space!!!! So sad and my favorite book!!!
Anyway, when I’m older, I want to be an author just like you!! Can you give some tips for my success??
    Tons of love,
    Tatiana

    • Wendy Mass on December 16, 2013 at 2:49 pm

So glad you like the books, Tatiana! Tips–I wish I had some magic formula (trust me, I’d use it myself!) and every writer has a different way they create stories. The tips you’ll hear a lot are: if you want to write, you have to READ. Everything! And then put your butt in the chair and write. Find a topic that fascinates you, and try to spin a story around it. Keep a writers notebook and record your thoughts and experiences. There are more tips in the Q&A section of my website (although i really need to update that). And under the resources tab you’ll see an article about an outlining method that I use.
      Happy Writing!

    Wendy-
My Children[(Lyrica (10), Jacquelyn (9), and DJ (6)] LOVE your books. We just finished “The Last Present” and the Willow Falls Series. Lyrica’s favorite book was “Candy Maker” and mine (Momma) was “Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life” and Jacquelyn’s was “11 Birthdays”.
I will keep checking your “events” tab to see when you will be at another book store. We are in Pennsylvania and would definitely drive so my children could meet you one day.

Thank you for sharing your amazing gift with us! Happy Holidays!!

I’m honored you read all those together. :o) I’ll update the visits section whenever anything comes up but as of now I don’t have anything on the near horizon, just a lot more books to write (don’t tell anyone but i’d really rather be reading over the holidays than writing. Alas!!) I wish you and your family of readers a wonderful holiday season!
      Hugs!

  92. Swenie on December 15, 2013 at 11:34 am

After listening to The Last Present on the audio, i kept listening to the interview you had and i came up with a random story idea aha.
    so it was something like
title could be like “switching birthdays” or ” Grace’s New Disaster” something like that,
    it could be about:
Grace was trying out some new enchantments, she was thinking about like ->> Amanda, Rory, Tara, Jake, Leo.
and she accidentally messed up and wind up with switched bodies ( Grace and Amanda switched, Tara and Rory , Jake and Leo. )
and so they try to find Angelina, so she could help grace(aka amanda) change the enchantment. since angelina lost all her power, grace had to figure it all by herself with some help. while this is happening, the kids find out each other’s life

  93. Mo on December 15, 2013 at 8:37 pm

  95. Nick on December 16, 2013 at 7:24 pm

Congrats on your bestselling book! You are truly honored to make the NY Times list! I was reading your previous comments and saw that making a movie of The Last Present was up for grabs. And if you don’t mind, I have a few questions. Could a thirteen-year-old direct/produce this movie? If so, could we start with 11 Birthdays and work our way up to The Last Present? I know it is a lot to ask, but I would love to help direct/produce/star in this movie. If you could give me any details, that would be wonderful. If not, I understand. I just thought it would be amazing if you would give a younger person a shot at making this book come to life. I would do anything needed to make your Willow Falls series come to life and make your books a hit on the screen as well. I would love it if you would consider letting me work with your wonderful books.
Anyways, I just wanted to say how blessed I am to be able to read your books. They have definitely made a huge impact on my life. I am very thankful for you, and that you are sharing your amazing talent with the whole world. God Bless You.

  96. Andrew on December 16, 2013 at 10:58 pm

You should send this book series to a movie producer and have them fall in love with this series and decide to make a movie about these books !!! Agh ! One of my favorite series of books ever !!!

  97. Yasmin on December 18, 2013 at 8:55 pm

Hi, I’ve read all of your books! I loved them! I think you should write a next one as a surprise to readers. Just what’s been happening at Willow Falls, the relationships (I actually really wanted to see more of the Rory/Jake one too, besides the other ones!), Grace, etc. It should be in Leo’s point of view(that would be interesting!) or somebody else in that group of friends. I love “that group of friends”! While reading the book, I found myself wishing I lived in Willow Falls and was friends with them! Man, I wrote a lot. Sorry of it’s to many suggestions! :D:s By the way, where is Willow Falls?

    • Wendy Mass on August 27, 2016 at 9:39 pm

Willow Falls is a mix of places I love. Wouldn’t it be fun to live there?! I hope you enjoy the new Candymakers also.

Maybe something about the next generation of Willow Falls kids (kids of David and Tara,Leo and Amanda, etc…) and the kids having to deal with Grace being mysterious.

  100. Delaney on December 26, 2013 at 7:32 pm

I literally just finished the last present. I was so excited about it and it did not disappoint! It would be amazing if you did an offshoot series. 11 Birthdays has been my favorite book since I first read it in third grade and I am in 7th now! Can’t wait to read your next book!

  101. Ella on December 27, 2013 at 5:24 pm

    Hi!
I’ve always wanted to do this (commenting), but never had anything good to write. πŸ˜› Anyways, I LOVE Willow Falls. I just read The Last Present in about 6 hours! Honestly, these books are my favorite ever. I wish I could live in that happy little town and be friends with the whole gang. The characters are like family to me, and these are what I refer to as my “default” books. When between books, I go back to these. I’ve reread them so much my covers are falling off (Thank goodness for hardbacks!). Thank you so much for writing these books; they give me endless joy. I must say, as I read the book I was filled with a melancholy feeling, loving the book but knowing it was going by and would too soon be over. πŸ™ When I grow up, I hope to write and spread joy the same way you do. So thank you for the lovely visits to this jaunty little town filled with characters that always bring a smile to my face.
    Lots of love,
    Abigail

Hi Abigail! I love the “jaunty little town” comment! I’m honored that they’re your default books! I had a bunch of those growing up and i still go back to them. Thank you for being so special! (ok, that’s a lot of exclamation points but i mean it. :o)
      Hugs!

I just finished The Last Present today, I was perfect Mrs Mass.!!!
I read 11 Birthdays when I was 9, and the following year I read Finally; the next year 13 Gifts.. And now the newest Willow Falls book. I was so sad when I realized that after I’d finish reading The Last Present, that there wouldn’t be anymore Willow Falls books..you have such an amazing gift, I’ve actually developed a little crush on Leo.. ^_^ I have to say though; The Last Present and 11 Birthdays are my favorite, mainly because Leo and Amanda have such an adorable realationship between each other πŸ™‚ thank you for giving me an amazing childhood with your Willow Falls books; they’re outstanding.
    Love, Robyn <3

    • Wendy Mass on January 2, 2014 at 10:24 pm

Hi Robyn! You’re so sweet, thank you!! That’s funny about the Leo crush, i always meant to put more of his poems in the books but writing poetry does NOT come easily to me so I always put it off and then somehow the deadline approaches and the book gets handed in without it. Oops! ;o)
Thank you again for your kindness.
      Hugs!!

  106. Claire on January 2, 2014 at 11:34 pm

    Hi Wendy!
I just borrowed The Last Present from one of my friends a few days ago, and I’ve already read it 3 times! I enjoyed it so much and I cried (not literally) when it was over because I realized that it was the last book in the series πŸ™ It would be amazing if you made a willow falls offshoot, or possibly another book in the series πŸ™‚ I seriously can’t get enough of your writing especially this series! I hope to see more Leo and Amanda in the future! Keep up the great work!

  107. Claire on January 3, 2014 at 12:30 am

    Hi it’s me again haha
This is just an idea, but what if you write 1 book (preferebly a long thick book :)) containing many different short stories about the characters lives and adventures. Examples could be stories about their relationships, stories about Grace and her powers, or stories about them growing up and what they become in the future (like if they have kids, if Grace lives as long as angelina, etc.) This is just a thought that I’m throwing out there! You don’t have to use it, but it would be great if you considered it! I absolutely love your work! Please keep writing!

  108. Rose on January 3, 2014 at 1:11 am

Hi! I loved the willow falls series! Probably my favorite works from you πŸ™‚ I would have to say that I haven’t stopped obsessing over how cute Leo and Amanda’s relationship is since I read this book! I would LOVE an offshoot of willow falls, or maybe a book about Leo and Amanda’s relationship? πŸ˜‰ anyways you’re a very gifted writer and I can NEVER get myself to put your books down!

  109. Rose on January 4, 2014 at 1:06 am

    Hey Wendy!
I hope you saw my last comment! I loved your willow falls series! I have 2 questions about the book, first where is willow falls located in the book? Is it in the U.S.? My second question is, in the last present you mention that the duck-head shaped cane appears in the diner again, you never really did say why or how it appeared again or how annie didn’t know what the kids were talking about, so how did it appear? It would be great if you answered my questions because I am very curious! Love your work Wendy!

    • Wendy Mass on December 10, 2022 at 11:16 am

Hi! I didn’t really base the town on a real one, although I bet there are some Willow Falls around (I’m afraid to check lol). I feel like I figured out the cane again in the last book — Graceful–so hopefully I did! Big hug to you!! -Wendy

I am so obsessed with your books Mrs Mass!
I just finished reading The Last Present and it is AMAZING! I love the relationship between Amanda and Leo, and I was kind of surprised with Tara + David but it’s a really good idea!!
I am so disappointed the the Willow Falls series is over! Maybe you could make an Epilogue in the future where Grace is the “Angelina” and she transfers her powers to someone else, that would be interesting.
I wonder if they will make movies out of your books….. I would try out for the part of Amanda πŸ™‚
Oh, if Willow Falls was real…..
I will keep reading all your books over and over again,

  114. Macrina on January 14, 2014 at 9:45 pm

    Hi!
    I really love your books.
I read Rapunzel: The One with All the Hair (Twice Upon a Time #1) in school when I was 11 and loved it. When I found out there was Sleeping Beauty: The One Who Took the Really Long Nap (Twice Upon a Time, #2), I literally dragged my mom to bring me to the library and find it. Then when Beauty and the Beast: The Only One Who Didn’t Run Away (Twice Upon a Time, #3) came out, I went to buy it.
But I really fell in love with the Willow Falls series as I felt a connection with them as I understood what the characters were going through(especially Rory and Tara). Coincidentally, I read Finally a month before my 12 birthday and I am born on the 14th of July.
I just read The Last Present for the 3rd time this week. Anyway, I hope you write a follow-up series.
    XOXO,
    Macrina

What about Conner and his parents? Do they handle Grace’s powers? I really need to know. I almost started crying when the book ended! PLEASE WRITE ANOTHER BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Last Present is one of my favorite books ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ms. Mass, I just finished reading your book. I loved The Last Present and all of the Willow Falls series! Although I am sad that you won’t be writing any more of them, I think that you did an excellent job on The Last Present and that it was a good book to tie all of the series together. It was fun to see the characters develop and grow more mature throughout the series. Even though Eleven Birthdays was my favorite (Mostly because I myself as a person am more like Amanda, but I just really loved it), all of the Willow Falls series were amazing; at the end I wanted to visit the town myself! Thank you for your insightful comments on the series! I really did try to wrap everything up in The Last Present. It was fun (and challenging!) to make them each a year older in each book, and to see how they would change. Between 11 and 13 is a big difference! Thaks again for your kind words!!

Silly question, but I only just stumbled upon 13 Gifts in the library and now want to read the whole series πŸ™‚ My question is: where is this Willow Falls? Did I miss the name of the state in which it is located? (I’m earreading it on audio so I can’t easily go back and re-read to see if I missed it). I’m trying to place the setting of the book on a map and having trouble without the state. Thanks!

    • Wendy Mass on February 15, 2014 at 10:31 pm

It’s never really mentioned what state it’s in…figured it’s easier that way and adds to the mystery of it. I think of it as a warmer state though, like one that gets very little snow. (boy, i’d love to live in one of those kinds of states this winter! NJ has been brutal! Yikes!)
      :o)

  129. Melanie on February 9, 2014 at 2:17 pm

Hey Wendy Mass! Sorry this is kind of late but I LOVED the willow falls series! I just finished the last present yesterday. It was the best book ever! I really would love some follow up books! I would love to see Amanda and Leo’s relationship continue! They’re so cute together! I read the beach part with them so many times because I loved it so much. I always wanted them to become a couple! This series is my all time favorite. I don’t want them to stop! I feel so sad that I finished reading them and will for sure be reading them again!!! Also if you right a follow up book, make sure you include what happens to Angelina De Angelo afterwords! And include Tara and Rory! I love all the characters! You’re so creative with coming up with characters. How did you come up with Willow falls? I love picturing the town and characters as I’m reading. I wish there was a movie so bad!!! PLEASE write more if you can! I love these books and I am in love with Willow Falls!!! Please respond:)

    • Wendy Mass on February 15, 2014 at 10:23 pm

You have no idea how many times I wrote that beach scene! Must have been 50! I kept calling my editor at every step changing a word here or there up until the final day before printing! I’m glad you liked it. Stay tuned for news in moments…
      Thank you for your letter!!

It must be awesome to have a main character in one of Wendy Mass’s books with the same name as you! My name is Stephanie just like Amanda’s friend in ” 11 Birthdays” !

  131. Autumn on February 11, 2014 at 8:49 pm

OMIGOD! You have NO IDEA how much I loved this series. I read every one of them in like..a week. I am totally obsessed! I am seriously thinking about trying to changing what people call me to Rory next year. You are my favorite author above and beyond. I want (so much) to grow up to be as good an author as you. Becoming an author has been my life-long dream. I AM SO YOUR #1 FAN!!!!!!!!! PLEEEEEEEEEASE do not end this series. I emailed you but I can’t express my feelings of how good a writer you are enough. I want to be able to make kids like me feel like they want to be transported into my books (like I feel about your books), your style of writing is what i LOVE is what I figured out. You are the best author ever. I have read so many books in my life and SERIOUSLY these are the best books ever. No offense to any other authors but seriously.

    Your BIGGEST #1 fan ever,
    Autumn

P.S. Please pardon any grammar or punctuation errors.

    • Wendy Mass on February 15, 2014 at 10:14 pm

I think Autumn is as good a name as Rory! I have a hard time saying her name, I kind of trip over the “r’s”! She’s fun to write about though. Stay tuned for big news…

  137. Some girl.. on March 6, 2014 at 6:47 pm

okay so I really liked the book, it is really good and the plot is awesome! but I kinda was disappointed about Amanda and Leo. I mean they kiss and then nothing else happens, they pretend that never happened? or just talk about it when their alone and that’s it, I think you should have added a little bit more romance in it. Also I think you Have to write a new book I mean look how many people mention it in the comments! imagine how many people would want to read it! I think it should be about the woman with the duck birth mark dies and at the time something changes, I think you should talk about Amanda and Leo dating or something, and I think you could bring some more characters, the 1st book should be spectacular! everybody would love a 2nd book ! please keep it in mind!! πŸ™‚

  138. lizbeth on April 1, 2014 at 8:53 am

Write the books in Leo’s point of view please please!!! Sorry I just love your books. My friends say that I am enticted to your books but I can not help it there so good!!!!Please write another book!!!

But, I love Tara, and ABSOLUTELY LOVE that you included Rory, and Emily is Tara’s cousin? Mind = Blown. Keep up with the Willow Falls series!!! (Hope the last present explains why Angelina disappears so much and the duck on her check. once again, LOVE IT!!!)

    Dear Wendy,

At my book fair one year, my mom bout me 13 Gifts. I think it just collected dust for 6 months. Then I pulled it out and fell in love with it. Then I read the rest and was totally in love with Leo, so I just had to read the Last Present. I’m so glad to have got to understand friendship can form in unlikely places and that there are no coincidences.

I just read the book it was absolutely fantastic!!!!
You did such a great job with this book!
I’m sooo excited for the next book. I was wondering a lot at the end of the book about Tara’s letter and Amanda and Leo’s romance! I’m really hoping something happens between the two!
I also can’t wait to start reading the Twice Upon a Time series. I’m planning on purchasing all of them on my Kobo!
Your one of my favorite authors now! I love the way you write! How the story starts off one way and ends totally differently. No one can predict what your going write. that’s what I really love about you

  146. Julianna on April 24, 2014 at 1:22 pm

I read it, and I am literally in love with it! A work of art is what I call it!

  147. Emma on May 8, 2014 at 7:42 pm

The Last Present looks like a great book! I have not read it yet because I am reading Sleeping Beauty now! I LOVE your books Mrs. Mass! One of my favorite books of yours in this series is Eleven Birthdays because some boys do not have a girl for a very good friend because they are afraid of what other boys will think of them and this book could teach them it is ok to have a girl for a friend. I also loved it because when Amanda’s birthday kept going on day after day no one understood but her and Leo. I would love to know how the idea came about for this book!

    • Wendy Mass on August 17, 2016 at 9:51 pm

Thank you and I loved that it was their connection.

  148. Luna Mason on May 23, 2014 at 10:51 am

    Hi!!!

I just wanted to say how eager I am to read this book!!! I’ve been waiting for FOREVER. I just finished my last final yesterday (unfortunately I had to take it with a 102 fever raging…yikes, I hope I did well!), and I wanted my mum to get it for me from the library since it’s FINALLY available (I never get why they never have enough of your books. πŸ™ it’s very unsatisfying), but she had to go somewhere else.

I also wanted to say a big THANK YOU! The first time I read one of your books (11 birthdays, and it was a very long time ago, but that story’s still fresh in my mind…*blushes* I reread it A LOT) was when my mum and dad went to California, and I’m a very avid reader (I read the Lord of the Rings trilogy when I was 7), so I went to the library every day, to get new books.

I was getting pretty lonely (I had read most of the books already in our small library’s children section), when I saw your books in the new arrivals section. I picked two of them up (11 birthdays and Every Soul a Star), and I read them in one sitting!!!!

Since then, I’ve read almost all of your books. (Leap Day was a bit mature for me..and I haven’t read your once upon a time series) I’ve been haunting your site for a VERY LONG TIME (sorry if that seems a bit stalkerish…)!!!

You’re my favorite author, and you’ve inspired me so much…you’ve also given me a wonder filled childhood!!! You also inspired me to write my first novel, and chased away loneliness and sadness. I could always count on picking up one of your books (I have no idea how many times I’ve borrowed them) and getting lost in your worlds. Thank you soooo much! I wouldn’t be here without you. =)

    -Luna Mason

What a lovely letter to find! I wish I could reach back in time and give you a hug and now you’re well and grown up! I’m so glad you found the books at the time that you did, and honored that they gave you solace and companionship and inspiration. I’d love to hear how you’re doing if you see this! Sending love and hugs back the many miles and years and hope you feel them! xo, Wendy

  149. Suki on June 18, 2014 at 12:40 am

This book was absolute perfection. Amanda and Leo are so cute together, and I have been waiting for them to be more than friends for the longest time. An spin off in Leo’s point of view, or maybe even going into the future with their relationship would be super cool. I am so sad that the series has ended, as I love these books. Hope you see this Wendy, and keep on writing.

  150. Jessica on June 19, 2014 at 10:50 am

This post is probably late, but I’m just so excited! In 5th grade I was a HUGE fan of the Willow Falls series! I borrowed 11 Birthdays from the school library and fell in love with it! Since then I’ve purchased the entire series up to 13 Gifts and have read the three of them multiple times. I searched desperately for news of a sequel but came back with nothing. Perhaps it was still too early or I didn’t look in the right places. Eventually I gave up the search. Well today, I’ve finally found out about the Last Present and this 9th grader is gonna read it! I absolutely can’t wait to go get it! Also if the series were to continue, I think it would be amazing if the next book was in David’s perspective (My favorite character). Since I haven’t read the Last Present, I understand if that’s not possible due to some reason I’m unaware of yet. I still think it would be cool though.

Thank you Wendy Mass! You were the author that originally inspired me to be an author someday! πŸ™‚

That is so great! I could not stop reading it, literally. (I think it kind of made my mom frustrated when she told me to fold the clothes and I said one more page over and over again πŸ™‚ ). Anyways, I always look forward to reading your books, knowing they will be fabulous. My favorite is A Mango Shaped Space. It is so amazing to learn about synesthesia; I thought the pheromone part was especially cool! It has inspired me look into neurology when I grow older. Keep up the great work!

  160. Merry on January 4, 2015 at 11:37 am

Sometimes I write my own books it’s so fun to do. Sometimes I’ll base them on dreams I had or real life crazy stories or I’ll even write about real boring things but change up some details or characters to make it existing, funny or even scary. My first book I wrote was when I was around 6 years old, it was made out of construction paper, yarn and it was written in chalk and finger paint. It was about a egg that hatched into a ” fishenstein”. But now I have two different journals getting full of wonderful stories. I have just one question how do I get them published?

    Your fan, Merry

Hi Wendy Mass! My name is Natalie and I recently read “The Last Present.” I have read all of the Willow Falls books and my favorite was “12 Finally.” When I read your books the characters come alive in my head and I can see everything happening. The descriptions you write are perfect. My favorite characters are Amanda and Leo because they say what is on their mind and I think they are really funny. I think you are an awesome writer and you inspire me to be a better writer. My only question is which in the Willow Falls Series is your favorite book and why?
    Keep on writing!
    Natalie

It’s so hard for authors to choose a favorite amongst their own books, but here are favorites of mine from others! I loved the Narnia books, all the books by Edward Eager, Judy Blume, Paula Danziger, Beverly Cleary, E.L. Konigsberg and one of my favorites was a novel I read in seventh grade called Allegra Maud Goldman by Edith akonecky. xo

Hi Wendy Mass, I love your books so much. Your books should become a movie series I adore Willow Falls. Every time I read your books they capture me in Willow falls with all the characters it would make such a good movie series. I read your books so many times my friend’s mom gave me your first two books I loved them and I bought the rest of your series. I even recommended them to a teacher and she loved them too. My favorite book will always be 11 birthdays and The Last Present. They are my favorite because Amanda and Leo have the best relationship. I stayed up so late finishing your books always making me laugh. You are the best author ever. I have read a lot of your books too besides the Willow Fall Series.
    Sincerely,
    April
