SPACE TAXI preview and Holiday wishes

It’s a snowy day here in New Jersey, perfect for curling up with hot chocolate and a book. I’m grateful for the owner of my wonderful Indie bookstore who loans me advance reading copies of upcoming books. The hardest part is choosing which to read first! Speaking of my local bookstore, just a reminder that if anyone wants to order books as gifts this season, if you order through them, I’ll go in and sign them with a message and she will send them. Here’s the info: http://www.spartabooks.com/contact-us. You can even do it online and write in the message box who you want it signed for.

Here is a sneak peek at a new series for younger readers called SPACE TAXI launching April 1st. I’m writing it with my husband Mike, who is a teacher. It’s been a ton of fun writing a book that has illustrations! SpaceTaxi_CVR_revised[1]

After the holidays I should have some news about sequels to two books…which ones? Ah, that will have to wait. Till then, I wish you clear skies and happy holidays.

YAYAYAYAY A NEW POST! You’re my FAVOURITE author! I’ve read every single one of your books and I love getting them on the first day! I can’t wait until your next book!

Sequels?????????????????????????????????? Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are my favorite author by far! Me and all my friends have read your books and loved them. You are so talented! I check your website every single day to make sure I didn’t miss a new post or update. I just had one question, could you reply to my post please?! I would love to hear from you personally.. that probably sounds weird… Also, your new series, Space Taxi, will it be good for an 8 year old to read? My little brother is 8 and he knows how much I love your books and he was wondering if he would/like to read those books? (he wanted to see why I liked you so much) Thanks!!!

    • Wendy Mass on December 18, 2013 at 9:31 am

      Love the extra punctuation! :o)
A hug to you and your friends! Yes, Space Taxi will be the perfect reading level for your brother. It’s about an 8 year old boy, too. I’ll talk more about it as the release date gets closer.
      Have a great holiday!

  7. Hope on December 19, 2013 at 7:43 pm

You said “I wish you clear skies”, this may sound weird, but is that a hint to the sequel? Since they the characters in Every Soul a Star said that I was just wondering…

Happy holidays/Merry Christmas/Happy New Years, Mrs. Mass! I am SO excited for space taxi and the sequels!! Can’t wait! Please keep us updated…I appreciate all of your hard work writing these books and you are by far my favorite author πŸ™‚ Got 13 of your books on my shelf, with two still un-read but I will get to them as soon as my school work is not so much πŸ™‚
    Thank you!

  9. Carly on December 20, 2013 at 2:07 pm

Hey! I’m so glad that I can talk to you! My middle school is doing an author project, and the second I saw your name on the list, I wanted to research YOU! Of course, I had to fight for it (everbody wanted you) but my project is almost done! Then I saw the “Speak Your Mind” thing, and I jumped to the chane. Anyway, I want to say that I love your work!
    -Bye!

  10. Bridget on December 20, 2013 at 8:55 pm

I just wanted to say how much I adore your book. My favorites are the entire Willow Falls series. Awesome job on The Last Present, btw. I can’t wait for sequels. Fingers crossed that one’s for Every Soul A Star!
I also wanted to request that you make another Twice Upon A Time. I loved Beauty And The Beast, as well as the other two, and I hope you write some more! Thank you for sharing your amazing talent! πŸ™‚

  11. Hannah on December 23, 2013 at 10:09 pm

  12. Maddie on December 24, 2013 at 12:05 am

Yay! So excited! I love all your books, but if I could wish for a sequel in two of your Stand Alone books it would probably be Every Soul a Star and The Candymakers. Those are my two favourite Stand Alone books! Just reminding you you’re really talented and I look up to you. I want to be an author one day and I write stories for fun sometimes but know they’ll never get published.

Happy Holidays, along with a joyful New Year!

    Much love,

Merry Christmas! When I woke up this morning I ran into the living room and to my surprise I saw every book you have ever written under the tree I was so happy! When I opened up the first book the first thing I saw on it was AUTOGRAPHED COPY then I saw my name next to yours in your handwriting, I was THRILLED I loved the enthusiastic comments you wrote in each book!!!! Thank you so much for making my Christmas all he more merrier!!!! πŸ™‚

  14. Shira on December 24, 2013 at 10:23 pm

COOL!!! Can’t wait for the new book! Reeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaalllllly want 2 read the sequels:)!!

Does the word LAST in the last present mean it’s the last book in the willow falls series:(? (Please don’t let it be!)

  15. Nicole on December 26, 2013 at 2:53 pm

SEQUEL!!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let it be for Every Soul A Star! That’s the first book I read by you, and afterwards I just sat there for about half an hour wishing there was more and wondering what happened to all of the characters… so if there’s a sequel for that, I literally will die screaming.

  16. Summer Caton on December 27, 2013 at 12:08 am

    Dear Wendy Mass,
I hope you had an incredible Christmas!! Here in Missouri it didn’t snow much but it was extremely cold!!
I loved all my Christmas gifts but the best ones are the ones that I should add a little more story to, this was my Christmas:
I woke up, wiping the sleep out of my eyes it took me only two seconds to realize that it was Christmas morning! I jumped out of my bed and slipped on my new purple slippers I had gotten the night before and ran down the hall and into my sisters room, ” Kyla, Kyla wake up it’s Christmas hurry we have to see what Santa brought us!”, I said practically shouting in her ear. ” Wh-what oh, Summer why did you wake me up! You know how I hate being woken up I jus- wait a minute, it’s Christmas!” Kyla(my sister) said. U ran into the living room and when I peeked under the tree the first thing I saw was the binding on the Willow Falls series books, but wait that isn’t all I looked closer, all the Wendy Mass books she had ever written were stacked neatly on the lavender tree skirt! I picked up the first book on top which was Pi in The Sky I was right in the middle of reading this one on my kindle but now I could read it on hardback, I opened the cover and I saw a golden sticker that said AUTOGRAPHED COPY, I quickly flipped to the next page to see this written inside: to Summer continue on your journey xo Wendy Mass! I couldn’t believe it , I picked up the next book and the next and when I got do e looking through a the books I finally realized Wendy Mass has autographed all her books for me!
Thank you for reading, I hope you know how thrilled and grateful I am for these wonderful gifts that I will forever cherish in my heart! Thank you Wendy for making my Christmas all the more merrier! Merry Christmas!
    Xoxo

This is when I am grateful for my website as it allows me to save very special letters like this one. I hope you have a great new school year!

  17. Parker on December 27, 2013 at 2:02 pm

Hmmm, lets see. “After the holidays”: the clock on THIS computer says December 27th, thats after the holidays for sure! Maybe I’m wrong? πŸ˜‰ I’d LOVE to see a Mango sequel, as that is my favorite book ever, but I’m just not sure how much awesomeness the universe can handle. The Powers That Be might have a few words to say about that! Also, something I’ve noticed Wendy, you often end your posts with “I wish you clear skies” or something of the like. Is that a reference to Every Soul a Star? Or is there an eclipse happening in your area? Thanks for being amazing!!

  18. Maggie on December 27, 2013 at 2:32 pm

    Dear Miss Wendy,
Hi!!!!! I’m am a BIG fan of the Willow Falls books and the Twice Upon a time series! I hope they are sequels for those two! I have a little problem. I would like to send a note to you in the mail, but I don’t know where to send it to! If you have a certain address, please tell me! The Willow Falls series really changed my life, and there is too little space in this box to talk about it! I have sent letters to other authors, and one really wrote back! I hope I get a chance to send you one and maybe if you have time off from writing, you can write back. I am currently reading A Mango-Shaped Space and it is really good already! I have read all of your Willow Falls books and let me just say, hands down, they are my favorite series! I hope you liked this message and get a response to my question! I hope you had a Merry Christmas!
    Love as Always,
    Maggie the Book Lover <3

Hullo! *waves shyly* *knocks over a vase* Oh dear. Well, anyways, I am super excited for Space Taxi! I’m at least thirteen years old now, but I still love reading middle-grade books. πŸ™‚ Sequels? GASP. I’m really excited. Is there going to be a sequel to “Pi in the Sky,” “The Candymakers,” or “Jeremy Fink”? Out of your stand alone books, that’s the top three I expect! If there were sequels to either “A Mango-Shaped Space” or “Heaven Looks A Lot Like The Mall,” I’d probably fangirl all day!!!! XD By the way, I’m reading “The Last Present” right now, and it is AMAZING! Except, well, on page 126, I think Connor is spelled wrong (Conner). Well have a Happy New Year (and don’t forget to wish during 11:11; you’re allowed to make wishes at that time! Stay strong and wonderful! xoxo Morning

  20. Abby on December 28, 2013 at 1:00 pm

Hello! I just got a nook hd for x-mas so I am doing this from it. I am good and I also have lots to say! HAVE to read!!!!!

  22. Jenna on December 29, 2013 at 4:04 pm

    Dear Wendy Mass,
I am a HUGE fan of your Willow Falls series! When i read 11 Birthdays It became my favorite book! I didn’t read Finally, 13 Gifts, or The Last Preasent until this year because I didn’t know they were part of the Willow Falls series. You really need to make a move for these books! I have a few questions:
Who will Grace help first when she turns 18?
Do Amanda and Leo kiss again?
You are a really great author. I am going to tell my friends about the Willow Falls series when i get back to school next year!
    Please reply Wendy Mass

I’m going to read Space Taxi no matter what. It sounds really cool. πŸ˜€

    • Wendy Mass on January 2, 2014 at 10:29 pm

  25. Julia on January 1, 2014 at 8:50 pm

Hi Wendy! I’m a big fan (just finished “The Last Present”. It was my early birthday present.) and I have a suggestion. Maybe when you get the time, you could do a re-write of the willow falls series, except in the boys POVs. Like 11 Birthdays and The Last Present in Leo’s POV, Finally in Jake’s POV, and 13 Gifts in David’s POV. Just a thought I had. xoxo

    • Wendy Mass on January 2, 2014 at 10:19 pm

After 11 Birthdays I thought about re-writing it from Leo’s POV, but wanted to move forward in time, instead. FINALLY from Jake’s pov would be fun–maybe you should write it. ;o)
      xo
      w.

      • Supriya on January 23, 2014 at 8:27 pm

You moved forward in time, to make Leo (and Amanda) move back in time (in The Last Present). This is going to give me a headache . . .

        Niffum = muffin backwards
Were you really hungry when writing Pi in the Sky, or something?

  26. Bookworm on January 1, 2014 at 9:19 pm

  39. Lara on January 13, 2014 at 4:18 pm

    Hey Wendy!!!!

I discovered 13 Gifts in my classroom library last week, and I’ve been reading nonstop! I’ve been reading so much, my desk neighbor complains about me reading. I’m 11, but I’m an “X” in the Scholastic letter level reading system. Your books are awesome!

You should definitely do something with Jake and Rory, if you haven’t already. I think you stopped at 13 Gifts for now with the Willow Falls series, if not let me know. Maybe you can time skip to Rory’s year in 9th grade, and Jake could perhaps come to Willow Falls to have a break. They should start their relationship from here!

You need to make sequels!!!! If you don’t, I will hunt you down and make you write them for the world. Just kidding… Maybe. πŸ˜› πŸ˜‰

I also love fairy tales! They’re like magic. If you make more for that series, you should do Cinderella or the Frog Prince! I absolutely love your books, and I also want to be an author. I love writing and reading, except I always put too much detail or not enough in stories. I also remember when I first read 11 Birthdays when I was little. I thought the series was so cool because it went in order on birthdays πŸ˜‰

    – A MASSive fan, no pun intended. Okay, maybe a little…or totally. πŸ˜€

I have just read “Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life,” and I have to say that it was one of the most wonderful and unique books I have read. The book addresses the question that most people don’t think about. What is the meaning of life? I think you did an absolutely marvelous job explaining every persons belief of the answer, and you have inspired me further into my hope that someday I will become a well-known author.

  55. Theresa on January 29, 2014 at 7:10 pm

    Hi Ms. Mass!
I’m Theresa, and I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for sharing your brilliant stories with the world. You are a PHENOMENAL author, and I love everything about your books.
I especially connect with the Willow Falls books (because they are the first books I read by you). I am VERY similar to Rory, in so many ways!
The think I like most about the Willow Falls Series is how you incorporate small details from the other books, that means so much when you realize the reference. All of these little things were so simple, but made me so happy! I was ecstatic when I found out that David was Bee Boy!
Every Soul A Star and The Candymakers are some of my other favorites, I loved those books so much! The stand alone novels are so phenomenal and perfect and make you feel so good inside.
Thank you so much for being an author, and it would mean the world to me if you responded, if you have time!
    -Theresa

      Hi Theresa!
Thank you for your beautiful letter!! I can tell how you’re like Rory, you have her inner goodness! It was tricky making David and Bee Boy work out since Bee Boy was initially in a class a year ahead of Amanda. Had to think fast to come up with a reason that he’d really been in an advanced class! (at least I THINK i got that in there somewhere!). I had a lot of help from readers on what they wanted to see in The Last Present from the other books and that was SOOOOOO helpful! Thank you again for writing to me (and reading!).
      xo

  58. Maggie on January 31, 2014 at 8:48 pm

    Dear Miss Mass,
I don’t want this to be a soppy message, but I do give you a disclaimer πŸ˜‰ First off, I have read 2 out of the 3 Twice Upon a Time books, ALL of the Willow Falls Series books and I have read A Mango Shaped Space and I just ordered The Candymakers. The Willow Falls series really changed my life and so did A Mango Shaped Space. They are so detailed and PERFECT! Your writing is better then any other author (No offence to or Suzanne Collins!) And if they are sequels to the books I mentioned, tell me the earliest I can pre-order them! I want to send you a letter to describe how much more I love you and your writing, so can you pretty please tell me what address to send it to? That would be AWESOME! Do you have any authors you think I should check out? I saw on this blog that you met a lot of them! Well Miss Mass, to close this message up, I say, THANK YOU!

    With LOTS of love,
    Maggie <3<3<3

      Hi Maggie,
Writing to me here is the easiest, so thanks for that! I’m so glad you liked the ones you’ve read, it’s scary each time I turn one in, I always worry. I think most authors do! The “author pals” section lists my favorite books of a bunch of awesome authors so that should give you lots to choose from.
      And Thank You, too!!
      xo
      Wendy

I am just guessing (because they seem like books to make sequels for) but I think the sequels are for Every Soul A Star and Candymakers, or for the Twice upon a Time Series.

hi i love your books Wendy! their amazing! my favorite is 12 finally

  63. BooksAreAwesome on February 6, 2014 at 1:04 pm

So far I’ve only read 11 birthdays, 13 gifts, and The Last Present from the Willow Falls series and I have to say their amazing! I just finished The Last present and I was wondering if that was the last book in the series? I mean because it does have the word ‘Last’ and sometimes that’s what authors do to their books to kinda let readers know it’s the last book. Also I wanted to say I love how you plotted out the story so well! It’s amazing how you’ve put the characters all together as friends and the occasional romance! I hope to be a great author like you some day!

  64. Madison on February 9, 2014 at 5:43 pm

Hi wendy! I love you and your books. I hope the sequels are mango and Jeremy fink! Please tell me if I’m correct . Pretty please!

    • Wendy Mass on February 15, 2014 at 10:22 pm

Hmmm…er…not really, not now at least…I think both those characters were in a really good place in their lives at the end of the books. Hope you agree…:o)

You should really check out goodreads.com, I love it. There are a lot of people who really love your books on there! And there are so many groups just for you! Also please tell me the sequel is to every soul a star, I just love that book so much! You are so awesome!

    • Wendy Mass on February 15, 2014 at 10:21 pm

Hey there! Thanks for the goodreads tip. I’ve gone on a few times but authors are a sensitive bunch and there are a bunch of not so nice comments on there too. safer for my ego to only visit occasionally ;o) I think down the road I’ll do a short sequel to Every Soul a Star, like maybe an ebook type of thing with a short story for each character. I’ll let ya know! I’m glad you liked it though!
