Candymakers 2 (or CM2 as I’ve taken to calling it!)

Hi all!! I’m still deep underground trying to meet my deadline for The Candymakers and the Great Chocolate Chase. Your suggestions for new candies and road trip ideas have been SOOOO HELPFUL!!!!! Thank you!!! For those of you who haven’t read the first one yet, spoilers ahead so may not want to read the rest of this post! For the others, here’s another chance to pitch in…Miles has to come up with an advertising slogan for the Harmonicandy, so I’ve been gathering a list of ideas. Things like: Harmonicandy, the musical treat! or The Harmonicandy, chew to the tune! You can see why i need help!  I’d love to hear your ideas!

Peace and Chocolate,

Wendy

Yay! I’m soo happy! I am your biggest fan… I tried to write to you multiple times over the past four years but it never works:( I have read all your books and I hope you put a lot of Amanda-Leo moments in Graceful. Thanks soooo much, Taylor♡♥

    • Wendy Mass on February 17, 2015 at 1:05 pm

Hi Taylor! I’m sorry you’ve tried before, i’m slowly getting the older comments up. I think you’ll be happy with the Amanda-Leo moments in Graceful. The book focuses a good amount on their relationship–Leo writes poems! i can’t wait to hear what you think! (coming out end of april!)

I JUST FANGIRLED THE HARDEST FANGIRL!!!! I AM SO EXCTIED FOR GRACEFUL!!!!! I’ve become more interested in dystopian YA novels (like The Hunger Games and Divergent) so i have not been that into your books very much. But The Willow Falls series was the series that got me into reading and i am very greatful for that and for your writing. Thank you so much! I can’t wait to read Graceful!

  4. Anna on February 17, 2015 at 1:47 pm

    Hey Wendy,
My name is Anna. I am doing a school project on you, and I would like to know what your mom and dad’s names are. Thanks sooooo much.

P.S. that was random letters for the website because I don’t have one.

  5. Jaina on February 17, 2015 at 2:29 pm

How about “The Harmonicandy: eat to the beat!” or “The Harmonicandy: first you wow, then you chow!” or “The Harmonicandy: delectable to the ear and to the mouth!”

Wow, that’s harder than I thought it would be! I can’t wait to read CM2. The first book is one of my (and my brother’s!) favorite books. 🙂

    • Alex on May 4, 2015 at 6:04 pm

CM2 is coming out? YES!!!!!! I know this is completely out of date, but will you be writing any more twice upon a time? I just got around to reading them. also how about…

      HARMONICANDY, taste the music

      • Wendy Mass on May 10, 2015 at 9:16 am

Hopefully one more in that series, but not for a while. I do have fun writing them though!!

  6. Laura on February 17, 2015 at 2:52 pm

Hi!! How about these: Harmonicandy, the candy you can eat and play!
    Harmonicandy, harmonize your taste buds!
Harmonicandy, music to your ears and your taste buds!
    Harmonicandy, harmony in candy!
Harmonicandy, the only instrument you can eat!
Harmonicandy, playing an instrument has never been this tasty! (Instead of tasty you can use sweet)

Anyways, I would just like to say that me and my BFF are BIG fans and I hope these help you out!
P.S. I did this when I was supposed to be cleaning my room…oopsies

You can play it! You can eat it! It’s AMAZING!! *picture of some kid playing the Harmonicandy, eating the Harmonicandy, and loving the Harmonicandy*

The Harmonicandy: music for the taste buds

    Also
    PLEASE
    PLEASE
    PLEASE
put as much Philip in there. He is bae. Also I want to meet (briefly) his brother Andrew and if possible see the limo driver from Jeremy Fink and the meaning of life.
I love your books so much.

    • Hannah on February 17, 2015 at 9:07 pm

      Oh I have another one:
Life is sweet with the tune you can eat

  11. Sielo on February 18, 2015 at 12:18 am

    Hi ms. Mass!
Unfortunately I can’t help you with the Harmonicandy thing because I’m not very creative but I absolutely loved the Candymakers and cannot wait until the sequel! I loved how in the first one you could see things from everyone’s perspective which is something not a lot of books have. I also cannot wait for the Willow Falls sequel! Words cannot express how excited I am! I actually just finished reading 13 Gifts for the ump-teenth time. I love the books so much and have re-read them so many times, they’re starting to fall apart. Oops! Anyway, this isn’t very important but I was 10/11 when I first read 11 birthdays so I kinda grew up with the willow falls kids. Now I’m 15 though so I’m not the same age anymore but I loved them because I could relate to the characters since I was the same age. I actually always imagined there being a movie for each book in the series and me playing one of the characters. Unfortunately though I’m too old for that now. But I am pretty small so if you ever make a movie and need someone to play Rory, I’d gladly do it ;). Thank you so much for taking your time to read this extremely long message.
    Best of luck 🙂
    -Sielo

    • Sielo on February 18, 2015 at 12:51 am

Ps. I was thinking for the slogan idea maybe like something about being able to play with your food maybe? Or maybe the treat that’s as fun to play as it is to eat? The ineffable instrument? I guess that ones too broad… The mouthwatering music maker? I’m just kinda listing off random things. I don’t know. Again I’m not very creative.
      Good luck!
      -Sielo

  12. claira on February 18, 2015 at 7:48 pm

    Hi Wendy Mass!
I am so glad to hear this amazing news! I actually love both your suggestions for the harmonicandy, it’s very creative!! Speaking of creative, you’re books are amazing and so original, I’ve read each one since grade 5 and now I’m in grade 8!! And I can’t wait for Graceful, because you’re books were a huge part of my childhood, and I just HAVE to finish the series! I’m so excited for Candymakers and Graceful!!!! And I’m REALLY excited to hear about Amanda and Leo’s relashionship, they’d make SUCH a cute couple!! When are the two books coming out?
Thanks so much for your time and I can’t wait until your books come out!

I can’t wait for the new Candmakers to come out! I wish you would put more information out about Graceful though, I love all your books and I might be a little too old for some of them but they are all so good! I love all your writing and can’t wait for Graceful! In Graceful, I hope there is a lot of Rory and Jake moments and Amanda and Leo moments(i keep retreading the part where they kissed in the Last Present)! I love Rory and I don’t know if I’d be able to stand what happened to her in Finally. I love you so much! Keep writing!

  17. Amelia on February 19, 2015 at 10:15 am

Hi! I am your biggest fan! I have read all of your books (that are for middle schoolers), and I love all of them! My favorite book is The Candymakers! My friend told me about your books a few years ago and I have been reading them since then! I have written comments a few times, but with all of the other comments you get (because you are such an amazing author), you probably didn’t see them. 🙂 I am soooooooo excited for the Candymakers sequel! I have read the Candymakers at least 6 or 7 times. Just last night I got my younger sister to start reading 11 Birthdays. I LOVE the Willow Falls series! Me and my family listened to Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life and Every Soul a Star on audiobook on car trips. I love the Candymakers so much that last year for the holidays my parents bought it for me so I wouldn’t have to get it out of the library every time I wanted to read it! I just recently lent it to my friend and she liked it and ordered your other books to read. When is Graceful coming out? And any news about a Candymakers movie?
    Best wishes,
    Amelia 🙂

  18. Aubrey on February 19, 2015 at 12:01 pm

Oh my gosh I can’t wait!! I absolutely love the Candymakers and the rest of your books!! 🙂

  19. Hannah on February 19, 2015 at 5:43 pm

Hi Wendy! I am SOO excited for the new Candymakers book. When I read your first post mentioning it, literally jumped instead of walked for the whole rest of the evening because I was so hyper with excitement. (My mom was really confused because I tried to explain my excitement but I was breathless and yelling so I don’t think she got it) And OMG GRACEFUL I AM EVEN MORE EXCITED FOR THAT IF THATS POSSIBLE!
You are an amazing author! Even though I’m a little older than your mostly intended audience (8th grade) I still LOVE your books and reread them a lot. Especially Willow Falls. (Partially because Leo ❤️ Haha)
Ok I have a couple of ideas for the Harmonicandy thing. Here you go!
    Harmonicandy: sweetly melodic
Harmonicandy: put hum in your yum
    Harmonicandy: play crunchy crescendos
    Harmonicandy: a symphony of sweetness
    Harmonicandy: a classical confection
    Hope they are helpful!
DFTBA! (Don’t forget to be awesome)
    -Hannah

    • Wendy Mass on March 2, 2015 at 3:18 pm

Hi Hannah! Love the image of you jumping instead of walking! Thank you (and everyone!) for the great jingle ideas!! i’m writing the scene now where Miles gives his suggestions and i’m going to use a lot of these! Get ready to see some poems of Leo’s in Graceful :o) The characters are mostly in 8th grade in Graceful so i’m glad you’re still reading them. :o)
      xo

Also, I was wondering, and advice for young writers like me? I struggling to begin my novel (because I’ve been honestly scrolling around Pinterest for setting ideas and characters–not ashamed) and I was wondering if you had any words of wisdom?
    Thanks! c:

  24. Audrey on February 21, 2015 at 9:26 am

For the slogan, what about- Harmonicandy: Music for your Mouth!? I am a huge fan of your books, especially The Candymakers and Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life. I love the way you end your books. I can’t wait for CM2!!!

    As for slogans….. hmm………………. wow.
How about “Harmonicandy, Such Sweet Tunes!” or “The Harmonicandy, Music’s Never Been Sweeter!” or…….. “The Harmonicandy, Music To Your Sweet Tooth!”
Wow is that hard! But I hope these help. Good luck!!
    And THANKS SSSOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!

  26. Sars on February 21, 2015 at 3:47 pm

Harmonicandy: So yummy you can’t even play it! Harmonicandy: It’s music to your tastebuds! They might not be very good, but it’s all I’ve thought up. 🙂

  27. Taylor p on February 21, 2015 at 11:10 pm

Hi Wendy ! I’m a big fan and was hoping you give me just a little hint about graceful like Amanda and Leo or Rory and jake and the other couples:). Your willow falls series is amazing and my favorites were 11 birthdays and last present ( because it was narrated by Amanda) thank you!!

  28. rebecca on February 22, 2015 at 7:16 pm

OH MY GOD. (I’m hoping this comment loads bc this is my 3574035289 time trying) I CANNOT WAIT FOR GRACEFUL. i have been waiting and waiting and waiting and APRIL IS ALMOST HERE ASDFGHJKL!!! (asdfghkjkl is fangirl for dying of excitement!) i cant ask for anything to be included in the the book bc I’m pretty sure graceful is already finished, but I’M LITERALLY PRAYING THAT THERE IS TONS OF LEMANDA (Leo and Amanda). they are my favorite characters and OMG I SHIP THEM SO MUCH!!!! sorry about all the crazy capitals, I’m just SO EXCITED! I’ve fallen in love with your books even though I’m in eight grade. you came to my school in sixth grade, and before that i had never heard of you, and look at me now! my sister is going to Edison Middle next year (my sixth grade school in West Orange) and i hope she will get a signed copy of the last present for me. sorry that this comment is such a train wreck, I’m just SOOOO happy to be writing to THE Wendy Mass! please please please respond to this! i really hope Leo and Amanda become a couple. sending you hugs and good luck with Graceful,
    your #1 fan,
    Rebecca <3

    • Wendy Mass on February 25, 2015 at 9:35 am

That’s a lot of times trying! lol! And lol at Lemanda too, you’re very clever! Trust me, they’re in there. You’ll even get to see some of leo’s poetry! You’ll have to let me know if the wait was worth it. I had a lot of fun with the book and will miss the characters.
      hugs to you!
      Wendy

  29. Ashley on February 23, 2015 at 1:49 am

    Hi Wendy!

I’ve been a huge fan of your books since I was in 5th grade (I’m a senior in high school now) and am still a huge fan! For the Harmonicandy slogan, what about something like “Harmonicandy, a melody in your mouth”? When I think of “harmony” I automatically associate it with “melody”, so maybe you could use that? Hopefully that helped – I can’t wait to read CM2!! Thanks!

    -Ashley

    • Skylie on March 1, 2015 at 11:28 pm

I like it a lot! I came up with pretty lame on “The only candy you can eat and play in perfect harmony – The Harmonicandy!”

  30. Stella Sinclair on February 23, 2015 at 11:04 am

How about “The Harmonicandy: a tune you love to chew to!” or “The Harmonicandy: your children finally have something productive to do!” (I know, that last one was bad :P) Can’t wait for this next installment!

  31. Analisse$ on February 24, 2015 at 7:40 am

How about, “Taste the music! Hermonicandy!”

    • Rosalia on March 6, 2015 at 1:12 pm

Hahahahahaha I like that one, Analisse$!!! Lol yours is better than mine:)
      Happy March, all!

Hi Mrs. Mass! Let me first say I’m extremely excited for Graceful and Candymakers 2! I was really sad that Willow Falls was ending, so finding out that there would be another book was the amazing news!
I’m really horrible at jingles but I’ll take a shot. How about: Harmonicandy! First play a tune, then bite off and chew! Yeah, it’s pretty bad sorry. I’m sure whatever you come up with will be great. Thanks for writing such great books!

  34. Sophie on February 24, 2015 at 7:27 pm

Hi Wendy! I am so excited that you are writing CM2 and Graceful!! I have read the whole series of “Willow Falls” I am so excited to read the last book in the series. 36. Hannah Knott on February 25, 2015 at 3:52 pm

I LOVED the first book of The Candymakers!! Can I please have your email so me and my BFF can ask you some questions about number 2 please? My email is hannahjazzsknott@gmail.com!!

  37. Maddy on February 26, 2015 at 5:38 pm

I can’t wait for Graceful!!!!!! Yay!!!!! And for a slogan, I can’t really think of an exact one, but maybe something along the lines of tastebuds and earbuds? Like, how earbuds let you hear music and tastebuds are the tongue and you taste the harmonicandy (an instrument based thing) with tastebuds…. I think you get it. Someone could probably come up with a better one, but maybe something like, Harmonicandy, turn your tastebuds into earbuds!

  38. Natalee on February 26, 2015 at 9:09 pm

Hi Wendy Mass your books are so amazing that they inspire me to be a writer.

  39. Izzy on February 27, 2015 at 4:22 pm

Hi Wendy Mass! You are one of my favorite authors and I’m SO excited for Graceful & CM2!!! I’m your biggest fan! You don’t know how much I love your books. I’ve read almost every single one more than once and love them. Last year when I was at the book store and I found out there was a 4th to the Willow Falls series I screamed and bought it on the spot! I was thrilled to find out you were writing GRACEFUL!!! My favorite books (I can’t pick one!) that you’ve written are Willow Falls Series, Candy Makers, and Every Soul A Star. But if I had to chose one… It’d probably be the Willow Falls series. I write poetry, just like Leo, and I hope you include some in Graceful that he writes. I’m trying to get an idea to write a book because one day I want to be an author. Also, I have a suggestion for the Harmonicandy slogan. It’s a melody in your mouth: introducing the Harmonicandy! (My slogan is a little cheesy) I know that you are very busy but it would mean the world to mean if you responded. Hope your writing is going well!
    Thank you,
    Izzy

Yay! I’m so happy that there’s finally another Candymakers, and a Willow Falls! I remember you told us that they were making a movie about the CM1. What happened to that? Also, here’s some slogans, Harmonicandy: Taste the tune! or Harmonicandy: Play it and eat it! or Harmonicandy: Music you can eat!
I’ve been reading your books since 5th grade and I’m still reading them in 8th!
By the way, any plans to come to South Brunswick(New Jersey) for an author’s visit?

I’m so glad u updated ur blog 😀 I know I may sound a little obsessed about this but I was wondering what was going on with the whole Candy Makers movie 🙂 I thought that u might like this idea so I thought I would share it with u, since u are writing a sequel to the Candy Makers (I hope it’s as AMAZING as the first) you could do ____ (i.e. Six months, one year) later and put a teaser at the end of the movie !! It could be them in the RV (I could be crazy but I think u mentioned that) or geocatching…I just thought that would be fun =) Any how I am extremely interested in auditioning for y’all – I doubt I would get a part but it would be cool to be an extra, or should I say experience 😉 Oh, Rory…it never gets old, lol!

HI Wendy! I think you should try something like Ally Carter and try writing a spy book. It would be so cool.

    Thanks a bunch!

    Mara

  49. Laura on March 3, 2015 at 5:19 pm

  50. Elizabeth on March 3, 2015 at 7:16 pm

    Omg HI WENDY MASS!
This is such exciting news and I’m SO thrilled for the two books and can’t wait for them to come out! I have to say, I’m in grade NINE right now and I still read your books. They made a part of my childhood because I was just so obsessed! I may be a bit old, but I really don’t care because your books are amazing and are worth the wait! I should say, I am really upset that Graceful will be the last book in the birthday series, but thank you so much for deciding to write Graceful, because I know you were going to end the series in The Last Present.
Thank you SOOO much for the amazing news and I will definitely read these books!
    Love,
    Taylor

My name is Anya, and I have read almost all of your books! Anyway, I think some good slogans for CM2 are:

Harmonicandy, don’t be afraid to play (with) your food!
    OR
Harmonicandy, let your taste buds sing to the music!
    OR
Harmonicandy, the only melody you can taste!

  70. Jini on March 17, 2015 at 6:43 pm

    Hi Ms. Mass,
I love your books SOO much!! You are like, may favorite author! I have read the Candymakers, Jeremy Fink, Mango, Leap Day, Pi in the Sky (which made me cry) and all the Willow Falls books. I am glad you updated the text for Leap Day (I was ten when I read it and I did find some things that were not age-appropriate for me 😉 Anyway, I am SUPER EXCITED for CM2!! It was the first book of yours I read and ever since I fell in love with your writing! I’ve reread that book a million times—I just can’t get enough of the characters! Also, Graceful: SOO EXCITED you didn’t end the series at the Last Present! Not that I didn’t love it, I just wanted more (but I want more of every book series I read.) And I am so sad to see Amanda and Leo grow up (they will be FIFTEEN in Graceful!) but I love that their relationship has become one of romance. Definitely hoping for more Amanda/Leo moments in Graceful—as well as Rory/Jake and Tara/David. I found out about Graceful in October, and I am so glad I only have to wait six more weeks! Anyway, I love your books, Wendy Mass, you are so awesome! Thanks so much for everything! (And sorry this is so long 🙂

  71. Hope H on March 18, 2015 at 7:01 pm

Hi I love your books and I just finished Candy makers today I started Monday the 10th. I love your books and I can’t wait to read all of them, I am going to read a mango shaped space after I read Jeremy fink and the meaning of life. For a new candy you should make the cherry platypus it is a layer of chocolate then a layer of marshmallows then another layer of chocolate then a cherry filling, doesn’t it sound yummy. Today I turned 12, the same day I finished your book. I didn’t know until now that you had a blog. What’s your favorite book that you have written? One time I stayed up till 11 pm just reading your book, it was the night before my birthday so I couldn’t sleep. : )

    • Wendy Mass on August 17, 2016 at 10:07 pm

Thank you and I hope you enjoy the new Candymakers also! ????????

  72. Marita on March 19, 2015 at 5:55 am

Wow! I’m so excited Wendy! I read my first book of yours in year five and I’m in year 10 now! Yikes! I’m definitely a bit old for them now, but they always make me happy, which is one of the best qualities in a book. I look forward to reading Graceful and dying from the cuteness 🙂 I especially love Ray, although we Australians do not say ACE! Though I won’t deny saying g’day 😉

    • Wendy Mass on August 17, 2016 at 7:02 pm

I must make a note of that and I love that my books have grown with you!

  73. Maggie on March 20, 2015 at 8:06 pm

Hi Miss Mass! Thanks for being an AMAZING author! I am SO SO SO excited for CM2! I have a slogan idea- Harmonicandy! The sweet treat that rocks to ANY beat! Or something like that lol I can’t wait to purchase all of your new books and I hope to be able to write like you one day! I know you are very busy writing right now, so thank you for taking the time to read my comment! Love you!!!!
    Hugs and Chocolate Kisses,

      Thank you loads! ????????????

  74. Vania on March 22, 2015 at 5:26 pm

Perhaps a slogan for the candy could be, “Harmonicandy: Taste the music”, “Hamonicandy: the candy with the sweetest tune”, or “Harmonicandy: a tasteful tune”.

I love your books on a level of admiration, enjoyment, nostalgia, and inspiration. I still remember picking up Every Soul a Star in 8th grade and you have since remained my favorite author–your books have their own shelf in my bedroom! I am in college now. English major aspiring to be a writer of sorts and you have had a great impact on that desire of mine. Much love!

Random question: are you perchance left-handed? The picture of you on your homepage seems to support that thought, but I’ve also seen the image flipped before, so, I’m curious. If so, we have that in common! 😀 (I use both hands!)

    • Wendy Mass on December 10, 2022 at 6:40 pm

Hi!! Thanks for your great letter and for writing to me from college (which you’ve no doubt left behind by now), I’m honored to have had my own shelf! Nope on left handed. My sister is, though. That’s very cool about using both hands! I’m glad I finally saw this and I hope you’ll catch me up! xo, Wendy

    Dear Wendy Mass,
Hi! I am Annika and a huge fan of yours. I can’t wait until graceful comes out! I am also curious if you will be continuing the twice upon a time seris. Here’s an idea: you could do it for Cinderella! I’d love it if you answer my commet!

    From,
    Annika

    • Wendy Mass on December 4, 2022 at 7:49 pm

Hi!! Love your name (have a character with it spelled a little differently in Pi in the Sky!). Cinderella is a good idea, not sure if you saw that Robin Hood came out, that was a ton of fun to write.
I know this was a long time ago but thank you for writing to me! xo
      Wendy

  76. Alyssa Espinoza on March 26, 2015 at 3:33 am

Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!5 more weeks!! I love your books sooo much!!! Did you read my ideas for the slogan? The Candymakers was hilarious, touching, and a mystery…my three favorite things in one! Pleases reply… Your one of my favorite authors…along with Rick Riordan, Anna Stanizewski, Jerry Spinelli, and Lisa Papademitriou. Have you read the Westing Game or any of their books? PLEASE reply!!

    • Wendy Mass on August 17, 2016 at 7:47 pm

Thank you & I love The Westing Game!

  77. Sara on March 26, 2015 at 5:36 pm

I love your books and have never been disappointed in a purchase. My favorite will always be 11 Birthdays, for it is the first of yours I read, but A Mango Shaped-Space is a close second.
I know you’ve probably already chosen your jingle, but I really like these that I came up with. Hey, if you choose one of mine, maybe I’ll get my name in the book!

Harmonicandy: with a tune as sweet as it’s sugar
Harmonicandy: if you can’t play, just eat it without delay
Harmonicandy: candy your mother will let you play with
    Harmonicandy:
even if you stink at music,
the reason why you’d choose it,
    is because the great Harmonicandy,
is just the sugar to brighten your day.

Now I am all out of ideas.

    ~Sara

  78. Lola on March 27, 2015 at 4:34 pm

I actually thought Graceful would be released in January so I kept checking the stores and couldn’t find it I almost started to panic! Well, I’m all relieved now. Anyways, I know that Graceful is going to be just as good (or maybe even better) than all of the other AWESOME books in the Willow Falls Series. Oh, and I have a suggestion for the Harmonicandy slogan:
The Harmonicandy! Sweet to the ear, and sweet in the mouth too! 😉
I hope you like it! Please reply to tell me what you think of it! I love all of your books and try to read as many as I can. Well, bye!

I am a HUGE fan of your books! The Candymakers is one of my favorite books, which is saying a lot, since I LOVE to read! Last week I had 30 library books checked out! You can imagine what my library fine record is like! My fines alone have probably paid for half the books in the children’s/young adults section 🙂 !

I’m SOOOOO excited for CM2! When is it coming out? Is it available for pre-order yet?

So anyway, for the Harmonicandy, how about a jingle, like an advertising jingle? After all, it is a MUSICAL candy! Just a thought!

Ha on the library fines!! I used to joke that all my fines paid for the librarians’ kids’ college funds! (I’m sure that’s not how it works lol, but even today I always have fines!!). I hope you enjoyed CM2 when it finally came out. Hugs to you from across the years!! xo Wendy

I keep trying to post a comment but it’s not working and it’s driving me crazy!!!! Hope this works! Anyways, my idea for the Harmonicandy slogan is, “Harmonicandy, sweet to the ear, and the mouth too!” I know it’s kinda late but I’ve been trying to comment for a while now. I absolutely LOVE your books, I;m actually doing a book report about one of your books! I’m trying to read all of them, but sadly some aren’t available in my area! I find it awful, but atleast I can read all of the Willow Falls series which is AWESOME!!!! I can’t wait for your books to be released! I thought GRACEFUL would be released in January so I kept checking the stores but it wasn’t there! At least I know now. Well, bye!!!

I hope your book report went well–you might know the book better than me at this point! Just a few more weeks till Graceful, I’m sorry about any confusion with January…can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it!
Hugs as I go back to writing CM2!

  87. Sarah on April 3, 2015 at 2:44 pm

Harmonicandy: ahh the sweet sound of harmony. Just putting that out there. Anyway, I LOVE your books. I have read all of them and I am anticipating Graceful and CM2!!!!!! The Candy makers is BY FAR the best book of all time. And I have read a lot of books. A LOT. The series of Willow Falls is great also. I love your style of writing from each characters point of view! I have got a question. How do you keep with a story? I try to write a short story, (and boy is there a lot I have started) but I never come back to it. Maybe because I don’t have plan? Or what? Anyway, thanks for reading and I hope you answer my question! thx!!!!!;-)

    • Wendy Mass on December 10, 2022 at 11:03 am

Hi, yes I’m a big believer in outlining a story, or if that feels like too much work, then at least knowing how you want it to end so you can work the characters toward it. On the resources tab on this site there’s an article on my outlining method, if that helps. I’m sure by now you’ve figured out what works for you, so sorry for the delay here!
      All my best wishes!
      Wendy

I just saw Graceful in my sister’s copy of her school’s Scholastic paper, and I literally screamed with the joy. At first I thought that she was tricking me, since I already knew it was coming out only later this month, but then I went over to her to see it myself, and lo and behold, Graceful!!! I was so happy to see it, and I was a little lost for words.

I discovered your birthday series last year, and I was waiting impatiently for about a year now for Graceful’s release. Oh my goodness, this is so amazing!!!
    ~Megan

  90. Meg on April 12, 2015 at 11:00 am

Well, I hope this comment works… Anyway, it’s a bit too late to scream in all caps saying that I am excited to read Graceful, because I already read it, and it is AWESOME! I keep trying to convince my friends to read your books, because you have a way of writing that just captivates your mind until you finish the book. I have read The Candymakers so many times that at night, I literally replay parts of the book in my head. The last few times I posted, things didn’t really work out that well. Just wanted to let you know that anything you right in the CM2 will be music to my taste buds! (Sorry, really bad Harmonicandy joke!!!!)
Wishing you a happy very belated Easter and hugs,

  91. Emily Saunders on April 13, 2015 at 8:50 pm

Hi Wendy! My name is Emily Jo. I am 10 years old from Cape Cod. I am on page 452 of the first Candymakers book and this book NEEDS a movie! It would be a movie that any kid would want to see in a heart beat. The movie would keep the people on their toes and there would be LOTS of surprised and interested gasps! In school I am always clasping my hands over my mouth at what new info I find. I think the watchers would be invested in all of Daisy’s gadgets, and to see the candy convention take place. Also to see the making and playing of the “Harmonicandy”! Please think about it, “The Candymakers” would be such a good movie.

    • Wendy Mass on August 17, 2016 at 7:46 pm

I would love if there was a movie of all of my books but agree Candymakers would be extra sweet!

    Hi Wendy,
I have been trying to post a comment forever but hopefully it will work this time. I was wondering if after graceful comes out and everything you will wright another series/fantasy book like the willow falls series. It would be soooooo cool and I would read them all in a heart beat. Pleas think about it. I was also wondering if you can do a book tour for graceful and maybe visit Albany NY because it would be a dream come true. Thank you

    Dear Madam Wendy Mass,

Hello. My name is Sanjana, and I have been reading your English Books here in India . I was very pleased when I heard that you are making a second book to The Candymakers . May I ask when it may come out ? And may you please clarify what book series Graceful is from ? I have not read that book yet, but I am hoping that I can soon . I am deeply sorry if you cannot understand my writing because I am still learning English and how to read English Books . I would also be pleased if you could maybe write back . Also, the email I put for being able to write this note is of my sister who lives in the United States of America . She said that she will tell me is you write anything back . Is this ok ? Also , for your previous request of the Harmonicandy, you could write :
Harmonicandy ! The sweetness reaches your ears and mouth !
I know my suggestion is not that very good , but I hope you will consider it . The other book of yours that I read is A Mango Shaped Space . This is because I, too, have synesthesia ! In my opinion, your name is the color of a ripe mango , mixed with the tart purple of a cut open black berry .

Hoping you will write back ,
    Sanjana

    • Wendy Mass on June 10, 2016 at 2:59 pm

Sanjana- Thank you for reading my books and taking extra care in writing me all the way from India. Please thank your sister as well. The new Candymakers will be out August 2cd. Graceful is part of the Willow Falls series. You might enjoy reading all of them. I love how you describe my name!

Ahhhh! I cannot wait till CM2 comes out! Although I might have to end up rereading the first one to remember what happened I just know that I really loved it! I really really love you and your books. Tbh In 3rd grade my teacher made me start hate reading books even though I was a really big fan of them before. I begged my mom to not make me read and one day when I was at the library I picked up Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life. I loved it and I started reading. And before long my mom couldn’t take my nose out of a book. So, I totally want to thank you for that because at this point I have a bookstagram and I have 3k!! And books are my thing. I can’t imagine life without books. Even though I don’t actually know you you mean a lot to me. That being said PLEASE come to D.C or NORTHERN VIRGINIA I NEED to meet you. You are my idol and always will be… I really wish you would write more YA books though because I am a little too old to read some of your books! 🙂 LOL I have to go!! BYEEEE

  119. Lauren on September 3, 2015 at 4:54 pm

    New Candys:

Bubble Bomb Burst: Bubble gum that explodes with flavour and colour when you first bite into it, and when you spit it out, it can “blow up” into a colour explosion and disappear… (Scratch that last part if u want)

Sea Salt Ocean Swirl: A salty and sweet mix of white chocolate and salty caramel with specks of blue wafer all through out. It would be in the shape of a star fish with a cool marble pattern.

YoLollys: Lolly pops that can be used as….. Wait for it…. Yo yos! (Okay the name was kinda self explanatory)

Strawberry Chocolate Marshy Mash: Strawberry bits dipped in chocolate, then marshmallow, then chocolate again, then a bunch of those dipped marshmallow, than having that coated with chocolate.

Tripple Taffy Twisties: Lemon flavoured taffy twisted with vanilla flavoured taffy and orange taffy. Simple and sweet!

Chalkolate: This probably wouldn’t actually be the greatest idea… But I’ll put it down anyway. Baisicly just chocolate died in different colours with a chalky texture. You can eat it, and use it to make art. Haha

Best Of The Bars: A chocolate bar with different layers. Chocolate on top, then marshmallow, then peanuts,
Then caramel, then marshmallow again, then chocolate at the bottom.

Jumbo Jiant Gummy Snakes: You can probably guess this one. Pretty much a giant gummy worm… But instead of a worm, it would be a snake.

Hope at least one of these will help you. If I find one in the book I’ll probably faint! Btw thank you soooooo much for writing CM2! Fav author 🙂

    ~Lauren

I love your books, so when my library teacher told me I could post or email a author I choose you! I aseptically loved the candy makers book and cant wait for the next one to come out. I really really really really………REALLY loved how in the Candy Makers book you kept switching characters. It was so cool because you got to see all sorts of stuff that you wouldn’t have none if if it was just told by Logan. I highly RECOMMEND this book. I cant wait for the next one to come out, me and my friends are on the edge of our seats waiting for it, I am positive that we will be the first ones to bye it. Thanks for writing your books they are so awesome.

    Hello Mrs. Mass!

I don’t know if you remember, but I’m the girl that wrote an email to you 3 years ago. You even wrote back a reply and answered the questions I asked! I still have your email reply in my inbox. I hope you see this email I’m sending you, because guess what? I’m writing a newspaper about you. This is for an English project, and I’m really really sorry, but I have some questions and I would thank you a lot if you could take away just a few minutes from your writing and answer my questions.

    1. How did you use literary devices (characterization, metaphor, simile, personification, allusion, anaphora, alliteration, analogy) in your writing? Would you mind giving examples from some of your books?

    2. Do you have a connection between you and your writing? Could you please give examples from your books?

I hope you read this comment! Thank you so much, and I’m waiting so badly for cm2????

    • Wendy Mass on December 11, 2022 at 11:11 am

Hey again!! Sorry for the delay with this as your project is long passed. With the literary devices, I think that stuff often comes out after the writing happens, like in subsequent drafts; I for one don’t really put it in ahead of time, at least not on purpose. As for a connection, that definitely has to be there or else the story won’t have much life. There has to be an affection for the characters–even the not necessarily nice ones–and a need to impart a certain theme to the reader, that’s what keeps me typing away. And it’s fun to get swept up in the story as it goes along. Hope you’ve been well and happy! 🙂 Wendy

I made a s’more smores bar at home. And can you write a book that has a higher reading level. I love your books but they are way to easy. I have a 12.9 reading level but i am in my first year at middle school. I also have a new candy idea It is the unmeltable chocolate bar. And when I saw that you worked on a monk episode I watched it. And when is cm2 coming out? I love the original.

    • Wendy Mass on April 7, 2016 at 6:31 pm

Wow! That is an impressive reading level. I write stories that come to me, so maybe one day a higher level one will come. Good news! CM2 will be out Aug 2cd! (Thank you also for watching the Monk episode)

Also, I have a couple of questions. If you answer them in CM2 then don’t bother but if not then please, please PLEASE answer me…
    1. Who is Daisy’s brother?
    2. What is Daisy’s last name?
    3. Who took the picture of Logan when he was 5?

Thanks so much for all the great books!!!

Hi Wendy! I have tried multiple times to comment, but since you get soooooo many comments, you never reply to mine 🙁 Anyway, I read Graceful a while back and OH MY GOSH THE ENDING. I felt like crying because my favorite book series was over. I will miss the Leo-Amanda moments so much. Do you have a set release date for CM2? If so, what is it? I hope you have a nice life, I love you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Love, Erica xoxo

Hi Erica! I am so busy writing books that it takes me a while to answer these too. Thank you for your patience! I felt like crying too as I was very attached to all in Willow Falls. Regarding CM2- yes! Save the Date of Aug 2cd for The Candymakers and the Chocolate Chase. Thanks again for writing and keep reading!

I LOVE YOUR BOOKS SOOO MUCH! I have read all of your birthday books and Every Soul a Star. Even though Graceful is an extra, can you still add on to the series? PLEASE?! If it’s a YES, HOORAY! If it’s a no, I’ll just read the series again for the 9th time. By the way I’m 10 years old and I practically force all of my friends to read your books. Also, do you sign books? If so, how? Plz kit.

Long time, I’m sorry for delay!! Sparta Books in Sparta, NJ organizes the book signings if you want to call them if still interested…and wow on reading the series 9 times!!
Sending a big hug to you and your friends!

Hey, Wendy, My name is Katelyn and I am a huge fan of your books. I’m 10 years old and I love reading stories and writing stories. My favorite books of yours are The Candy Makers, or The Willow Falls. I do have one question, why did the magic leave Willow Falls in Gracefull? If you could answer that it would be great. Thanks!
