A Lot is Happening in Willow Falls this month

Happy back-to-school everyone! I love buying new school supplies, even when they’re not for me! Clean crisp notebooks full of possibility, sharpened #2 pencils, new lunch box with Shaun Cassidy on it…ok so they probably haven’t make those since the days i was in 6th grade but you get my drift. 🙂

So the biggest news is that THE LAST PRESENT will be coming out on September 24th. That’s just around the corner. Hurrah! The action picks up right where 13 GIFTS left off so even though you could read any of the first three books out of order, I think you’ll be happier if you read 13 GIFTS before THE LAST PRESENT. And 13 GIFTS is out in paperback now to make that even easier. That’s the less-big but still exciting news 🙂

last present cover final

A huge thanks to everyone who offered such wonderful ideas for the Candymakers script. I got to read the first draft and I LOVED it!! I know you will, too. The script is only the first step in a long process but fingers crossed. 🙂

The last big news of the month (so far…hey, it’s only half over!) is that a beautiful script for A Mango-Shaped Space is making the rounds in Hollywood! It was written by the writer/director of the Jeremy Fink film and hopefully will be snatched up very soon! Fingers crossed again 🙂

Happy reading everyone! I’m off to eat Starburst-flavored Candy Corn. Yum!!

I am SO excited for The Last Present, September 24th cannot come soon enough! I have my fingers crossed for the movie news, congratulations! Also, may I ask if you’ve given any thought to sequel to Every Soul a Star? I would love to find out how Ally adjusts to living in the big city and how Bree gets used to living at the Moon Shadow Campground! If you make any decisions, please mention it on the blog! After Space Taxi, will you write any more novels? 🙁 but I understand you probably need some rest…as you said at the 2010 Collingswood book festival (which I saw on YouTube) “I have contracts for five more, and after that I wanna go to sleep and not write any more books because I think I’ve said all I need to say in my books.” I totally understand! But I still hope you write more novels!
    Thanks!

  4. Marita on September 16, 2013 at 7:10 am

Oh my alpha centauri! That’s so exciting (referring to ALL of the news!)!!! I can’t wait to read The Last Present! Congratulations to you and the script writers for both the Candymakers and A Mango Shaped Space pre-movie! I’m sure they will be just as good as Jeremy Fink which was remarkably close to the book. I hope that soon someone will write a script for Every Soul a Star as well. Have a wonderful spring (sorry, fall for you)! Love from,
    Marita

    • Cam on September 16, 2013 at 7:35 pm

I haven’t seen the Jeremy Fink movie. Frankly, I don’t really want to. I guess that they just leave out all the good stuff and I am just tired of seeing movies with none of the good parts. And I want an Every Soul a Star movie! Or a sequel to it! I love that book!

  5. Zoila on September 16, 2013 at 8:12 am

I can’t wait to get the last present. As I am also sure a bunch of others can’t wait either. Out of all the books of yours I have read so far Jeremey Fink an the Meaning of Life has to be my favorite book. I always, no matter what, cry at the end. You really took the book to a new level and I really don’t want to see the movie because the book ALWAYS better. I hope you keep making touching books that relate to some of our lives and can make us feel happy again. 🙂

    Zoila

  6. Bentley Rae on September 16, 2013 at 12:57 pm

OM TO THE G!! cannot wait for the last willow falls book! its been on pre order on amazon for I don’t know how long! Cannot wait to get my hands on it, knowing it will be amazing cuz you wrote it!
also keeping my fingers crossed for the movies…a mango shaped-space would be an amazing movie! hope they both get picked up! looking forward to Sept 24th! 🙂

    • Riley on February 7, 2022 at 9:17 pm

Don’t worry….it wasn’t the last! And if anyone hasn’t read it yet, heads up: things kinda change between Amanda and Leo…if you know what I mean!😁😉😘
      -Willow Falls series’ biggest fan,
      Riley

  7. Cam on September 16, 2013 at 7:33 pm

OMG!!! So close to the 24th! And that will be a good thing that it is coming out on THAT day because, I have a Caeser’s English test that day. I will need something to bring me joy! And I am so happy about the Candymaker’s movie! When does it come out? I will try to find a copy. And I didn’t know anything about a Jeremy Fink movie and what was it that you said about a Mango Shaped Space movie?

  8. Sarah on September 16, 2013 at 9:15 pm

I’ve already started reading The Last Present! How, you ask? It was at my little brother’s school book fair! And it’s supposed to come out in like a week, not now! But it was there nevertheless! And I am on page 24. I’m already hooked, thank you so much for writing it, Wendy!
P.S. My comments never seem to get posted (?) I wrote one the day this blog post came out, but it still says awaiting moderation. Even so, I hope this is posted as it is big news indeed!
    Sincerely,
Someone who already has the book!!!!! 🙂

    • Wendy Mass on September 16, 2013 at 9:47 pm

Hi Sarah! I’m sorry to be so far behind with the posts. I’m so glad you snagged an early copy! And glad to hear you’re enjoying it. Phew!! :o)
Let us know what you think when it’s done. :o)
      Wendy

      • Sarah on September 17, 2013 at 3:03 pm

Right now I’m on chapter twenty, it’s been so amazing that I haven’t stopped reading 😀 And yes, the one scene I hoped would happen, well, did! No spoilers though. I am proud to be able to safely say that I am probably your first super-fan to read it, right? I can’t wait for your next books (and maybe Every Soul a Star sequel or companion novel? *being hopeful*) So thank you, Mrs. Mass, for writing such an innovative finale to the Willow Falls series!!! Double smileys 🙂 🙂

            Katie

        • Corinne on October 7, 2013 at 4:59 pm

      • Riley on February 7, 2022 at 9:24 pm

        Hi Wendy!
I absolutely LOVE the Willow Falls series and even though Graceful had a perfect ending, my brain wants more, you’re such a good writer. Also they’re so good I would suggest making movies! Also(sorry I’m saying that so much!😂) I’m glad to see that Amanda and Leo ended up married in the future…I always kind of knew they would go farther then friendship. Anyways, thanks for telling us where the starburst candy corn are and have a great dayy!!!!!
        -Your biggest fan,
        Riley

    • Sarah on October 8, 2013 at 8:08 pm

I know this is a late comment but I think you are lucky to get the new book that early. Also I think it is cool that we have the same name. Maybe I can call myself Sarara 🙂

  9. Mathilde on September 16, 2013 at 9:44 pm

I CANNOT wait for The Last Present!! I’m going to actually be sad reading it though, because those books are so good, I don’t want the series to end! My mom loves your books as well. I agree with Zoila that Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life is my favorite of your books (and just one of my favorites books, period). Reading makes me feel at home, no matter where I am.

  10. Summer on September 16, 2013 at 10:18 pm

I am so happy because I told my BFF about A Mango Shaped Space and at first she didn’t think reading your books was such a great idea but she read it anyway and she LOVED it omg she is going to read all your books I’m so happy that she gets to excperience the same thrill I did when I was reading your books thanks for making me smile ,Summer

  11. MorningTime4 on September 16, 2013 at 11:01 pm

YAY!!!! I can hardly hide my excitement right now (and I guess you can probably see that I am excited because I am ending my sentences with excessive exclamation marks and capitalization; they are VERY contagious). For days I have been wishing that there would at least, one time, there would be a book that I would be anticipating that was published before my birthday so that way I can purchase it on the day on my birthday, and here it is! The book that comes out exactly before my birthday, when I’m turning 13! And “The Last Present” starts right after “13 Presents”, the book that talks about Tara turning 13, and the book is coming out the day before my birthday! Coincidence? I don’t think so! After all, “there are no coincidences in Willow Falls!” It’s also exciting to hear the fact that “A Mango Shaped Space” and “The Candymakers” are in the process of being made into movies! Well, I am looking forward to the 24th! Can’t wait to read the book! 🙂 Stay strong and wonderful as well! From, the girl who is told by her friends that she is like the morning time. 🙂

    • Wendy Mass on September 22, 2013 at 8:27 pm

You’re so funny! Happy almost birthday!! True about those coincidences! I hope it’s worth the wait.
      xo
      Wendy

      • Riley on February 7, 2022 at 9:30 pm

What’s funny is now whenever I think “There are no Coincidences in willow falls” I smile like there’s something I know that others dont…its weird. Dang it, I just did it again😂…

    • Marita on September 24, 2013 at 5:56 pm

AHHHH!!! I can’t wait for the Last Presnt! I’ve had it on pre order since June!!! I’m so excited! 🙂 and I can’t wait for The Candymakers movie and I hope A Mango-Shaped Space will be turned into a movie!! I LOVED Jeremy Fink And The Meaning Of Life (the book and the movie!). But one question I have, is that 13 Gifts, is just being made into a paperback now. I mean, I got the paperback in October or November or December last year from my book fair, and to add to it, I live in Canada, so how did that happen?
    Love your books! 🙂 😀 🙂
    -Maddy

    • Wendy Mass on September 22, 2013 at 7:59 pm

Oh my gosh Wendy!!!!!!! You have no idea how excited I am!!!! The willow falls books are the books that got me hooked on your style of writing!!! Since then I’ve read all of your books and you are my role model for writing because I hope to get my books published someday. I’m so excited to read the last present!!!!! I’m going to cry when it’s over though :'( I love your books and I hope you won’t stop writing for a very long time!
Love, your BIGGEST fan Holly 🙂 <3

  25. Hallie on September 22, 2013 at 4:49 pm

I am sooooooooo excited. Like I have never been this excited about a book before even though I love to read. Me and my friend are fighting about who is going to kiss and what is going to happen. Can’t wait for Tuesday when I am going to start and probably finish it.

  26. Parker on September 22, 2013 at 6:58 pm

    Hi Wendy,
As soon as I read this I checked the day-counter on my computer, two more days until the 24th! I have decided to re-read the entire Willow Falls series before then, so I can be sure I haven’t forgotten anything. I would love to see A Mango Shaped Space (My favorite book of all time) be turned into a movie. Think you can get some of us aspiring actresses an audition for that? (Mia possibly? Although I think I would make a pretty fabulous Mango). Hmmm? Just kidding!!! (Although, if you actually could do that, I would fly to your house and grovel at your feet) PLEASE keep us updated on that! Also, Starburst flavored Candy Corn? Tell me more… 🙂

    • Wendy Mass on September 22, 2013 at 7:58 pm

i promise if any of the books get close enough to be made into movies to actually pick actors, i’ll definitely let you guys know!! Enjoy the Last P! xo

  27. Solana on September 22, 2013 at 11:17 pm

I Love the Willow Falls Series sooo…much I just got the Last Present at Barnes and Noble yesterday and I finished it! I stayed up all night reading it. I love how when your reading it you think you know what will happen but then all of a sudden something totally unexpected happens! I love it! ❤

  28. Hallie on September 23, 2013 at 4:48 pm

I am still super excited! Do you know what time it comes out for kindle tomorrow? I want to be one of the first to get it! I need this book!!!!!

  29. Maddy on September 23, 2013 at 5:41 pm

Thanks for commenting on my other comment, I was so happy when I saw!:) but, one other question I want to ask (and this is really random) is what the book spine (is that what you call it?) on The Last Present is? Like, 11 Birthdays had skinny colourful stripes, Finally had polka dots and 13 Gifts had thick green stripes……. It’s just, when I look at the books on my book shelf, I see the spines, and yeah….. That’s something I love about the series……. And that sounded pretty weird… 😉

    • Wendy Mass on September 25, 2013 at 10:32 am

LOL on the spines–i love how they do those in this series, too. You don’t notice it until you take off the dust jackets. Honestly i don’t know what this one looks like yet–you’ll have to tell ME. ;o)

  30. Hope on September 23, 2013 at 9:06 pm

    Hi Wendy!
I can’t wait to read the Last Present! I’m going to the bookstore tomorrow after school, I’m hoping they have it. I’ve read the synopsis it sounds really good! I can’t wait to find out how it all wraps up. Also, have you thoughtabout a sequal to Every Sould a Star? Its one of my favorites.
Anxiously waiting for tomorrow at 2:30!
    Hopeee!! 🙂

    Hi Wendy
WOW I’m so excited thanks for writing another book in that series! 😀
Your books are so amazing! By the way where did u learn to write like that?! I hope I become a writer one day!

  34. Sarah on September 24, 2013 at 3:27 pm

Hello Mrs. Mass! I’ve read 9 of your books (all standing proudly on my bookshelf) and I can’t help but ask if you’ve made any decisions pertaining to a sequel or companion novel to Every Soul a Star. Back in a 2009 post, you actually said what they would be called but I haven’t heard about it recently. Are you still considering it? I am a really really hopeful person lol 🙂 I think it would be so amazing to read about Ally’s first day of school in the city and how Bree adjusts to the camp and how Jack has changed.

    Thank you! 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • Wendy Mass on September 25, 2013 at 10:30 am

      Hi Sarah,
I really do want to write a sequel to Every Soul but I’m having trouble convincing the Powers That Be that it’s a good idea. I will keep trying though. Till then, feel free to write your own version of what you think might happen. :o)
      Hugs to you!

  35. Tasnuva on September 24, 2013 at 8:48 pm

Hi, Wendy! Me and my best friend Quinn love your books!!! I got her hooked on you when I told her she just had to read 11 Birthdays a few years ago, and we started freaking out when we saw that The Last Present was out!! 😀 I am so excited to read it and also can’t wait for more of your fabulous stuff! 😉

Hope you’re having a good fall!!! Happy writing! 🙂

    Dear Wendy,
I enjoy reading your books and thank you for making me smile through even the hardest of my troubles and worries. If you can please reply to this question: What INSPIRES you the most?

    • Wendy Mass on September 28, 2013 at 11:44 pm

I’m always glad to try to make you smile :o)
To answer your question–You guys are what inspires me the most. I know what i wanted/needed to get from books when i was growing up and that’s what i try really hard to write. (doesn’t always work, but i try!).

The Last Present was AWESOME! I loved it and I’m REEEEEEAAAAAAALLY SAD that it’s the end of the series. Are you sure it’ll be the last book? What about Every Soul a Star! You said you’d figure it out during the summer.

I was reading at lunch and then my friends stole the book from me until I finished my lunch. D: But I finished the book, and it was THE BEST THING EVER. 😀 WHY DID IT HAVE TO END?!

  49. Parker on September 26, 2013 at 11:52 pm

    Hi,
I finished The Last Present in record time, only took me a few hours! Something interesting I noticed, this may or may not have been intentional, 11 Birthdays (Book 1) had a LOT of magic in it. FInally and 13 Gifts were definitely magical, but not nearly as much. In Last Present, the magic came back really strong. DId you mean to, (forgive the pun) bookend you series with lots of magic?
Also, I LOVED the LP, great way to end the series. Thanks!

  50. Fumi on September 28, 2013 at 12:45 am

I finished the day I got it and I have to say, this is one of the best books I’ve ever read! I love Amanda and Leo, they’re so adorable! Is it possible that you would write more with these characters? Even if its not in the Willow Falls series? Please say yes haha I need more! Thank you for your amazing writing! You have inspired me to want to become an author!

  51. Sophie on September 28, 2013 at 8:34 am

I finished The Last Present last weekend because I had an earlier copy and it was awesome. I wish it didn’t have to end. Is it possible that you could write another willow falls book? The willow falls series is the best! Thank you for writing them.

I’ve just spent my entire Saturday reading The Last Present and I literally just finished it! It was so amazing! I loved every moment of it!!! All of the things that were revealed, especially basically everything at the end, blew my mind so much and IT ALL MADE SENSE!!!! And all of the couples and their cute little moments were PERFECTION!!! The last sentence made me throw my book across my bed and cry because it was so perfect and made me so happy and excited and a lot of other feelings!! I loved every bit of this entire series! These books have impacted my life so much, from the way I look at things down to the way I even write my own stories. They’re so wonderful, and I’m definitely sad to see the series end. I love a lot of books, but this series is definitely my favorite by far! It’ll always hold a very special place in my heart!! <3 :'D

    • Wendy Mass on September 28, 2013 at 11:39 pm

Wow, your letter made ME cry! Thanks so much! These books have been a joy to write (though not always easy). I was nervous about this one meeting reader’s expectations of how things should tie together so i’m really glad it made sense! Thanks for hanging in there for the journey.

I saw The Last Present at a bookstore and I can’t wait to read it! I’m going to wait for paperback because I have the first three Willow Falls books on paperback too. Are you going to go on a book your and do signings and stuff?

  58. Sarah on September 29, 2013 at 1:01 pm

So yeah I know I’ve posted a lot of comments, and it’s probably annoying (I apologize, I really do) but I also just want to put a quick note to Mrs. Mass because I’m a huge reader and I want to be a writer someday. So here goes: Ever since my friend in sixth grade recommended Every Soul a Star to me, I kept picking up more of your books and haven’t stopped loving them. I can only imagine how hard it must be to write them, so I feel pretty bad asking for a sequel/companion to Every Soul a Star, but Chicago would definitely be a change for Ally and I’m curious to see how, if ever, it will turn out. Of course there’s the problem of convincing the PTB (from what you said, Mrs. Mass! 🙂 and meeting people’s expectations, but either way I can’t wait for all of your next published adventures, like Space Taxi!!!! And hopefully one or two more novels after that? Anyway, I love books, I honestly do, I treasure my favorites so much that I refuse to crease them or let anyone else lay hands on them! 🙂 They will be on my bookshelf forever, never will go to Goodwill or be thrown away–never! 🙂

Thank you SO much, Mrs. Mass for your books and their impact on my life! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  59. Cam on September 29, 2013 at 2:00 pm

I am so excited for the Last Present! When I was reading 13 Gifts and I found out that Grace was going to the hospital, I turned the page and when I saw that there was nothing on there I was like “What happened?!” I swore that I was dreaming because I could not accept the fact that I didn’t know what happened!

  60. Caroline on September 29, 2013 at 6:49 pm

I really want to read the book, just it didn’t come out at ANY of the libraries near me!!!!! All of the books are still being delivered to the libraries, and I haven’t had time to go to the bookstore to see. I only hope that so many people don’t have it on hold when the book actually arrives at any of the libraries near me!!! Or I could buy it on the internet 😀 🙂 I really want the book to arrive really soon, since I’ll actually drink poison to get the book in my hands and read it!!!! Not really if I drank poison to read the book I’ll die in the middle of the book. 🙂 😀

  61. Alexandra on September 29, 2013 at 8:30 pm

I am reading the Candy Makers, and got to say loving it! I am at part three and I have been thinking about Daisy as a character. I just had to put out there as another book idea is a whole series based off of Daisy as a spy. I know I would read it, and maybe according to the comments it’s not the most popular book of yours but I love it and I think others will too. Also, just wanted to let you know how much I love your writing. A couple other of my favorites are James Patterson, Trenton Lee Stewart, and Erin Hunter. I love your works because I love reading books with a full description and that set an image in your mind. Or as I see it television with no commercials because I read more than I watch television. My nickname is Lexi.

  62. Sophie W on September 30, 2013 at 1:08 pm

Is it the same date in Canada? as far as I knew it’s coming out tomorrow (October 1st) and that what it said when I preordered it through the bookstore last week. when is it coming out here? (up in the great white north)
I am so excited ohmygoodnesseeeppp thank you for being amazing!

  63. Colette on September 30, 2013 at 9:49 pm

    Dear Wendy,
You are amazing. I think you are so talented in your writing. You are wonderful in every one of your books. I feel like I am right there with Ally, Jack, Bree, Amanda, Leo, Rory, Tara, and all of the other characters. I actually found myself stressing that the problem in the stories might not be solved. 🙂 Only a talented writer could make the reader feel like that. 🙂 I am almost done with The Last Present and so far it is AWESOME. The day after it came out we were on our way to a wedding in the mountains and I begged my parents to take me to a book store to get it and they knew how much I wanted it so they took me. My mom says that you have made me a better writer because now, after reading all of your books, I have a certain style of writing, just like you have one. I hope I sometime get to meet you. I tell all my friends about your books and so far they have read Every Soul A Star and 11 birthdays and completely loved it. In language arts the other week we read the Ray Bradbury book All Summer in a Day that you referred to in Every Soul A Star. We all looked at each other grinning because we knew we had heard it in your book. I live in Raleigh,North Carolina. If you ever do any visits down here post it . (For you, I mean the neighboring states too.) My little brother gets his treatments at Duke Children’s Hospital and I know I can always count on your book to cheer me up after a long, hard day there. He and I were in their magazine so maybe you saw us.
    Thank you for being wonderful!
    Love, Colette

I really really liked the Willow Falls series, especially The Last Present! 🙂 I only have one chapter but i’ve been putting off reading it for a while now because I don’t want the series to end! Books are always the best the first time you read them. These books have really had an effect on my life. When i was reading The Last Present, it felt like i was in Willow Falls with amanda and leo. Actually, I would love to live in willow falls! Its so sad that the series is ending. :’D I dont know if youll ever see this but i really hope you do! 🙂 Thank you, thank you, thank you for writing these books!

lol, I was reading 13 Gifts for the fourth time, before I get The Last Present, and I found a typo that I’m surprised I didn’t notice before. On pg. 247 it says,
Aunt Emily put her hands on her hips.
Instead of Aunt Bethany. The other 3 times of read the book, I didn’t notice for some reason. 🙂 Lol, love the series and can’t wait to read The Last Present 🙂

Okay first of all, why are my favorite books of all time being made into a movie at once? Thats like insanely awesome. My BFF will FREAK when she finds out about mango. Her and I are total dorks when it comes to your books. Second of all, I’d like to say thanks. Your books really have changed me. They leave me with this really good feeling inside when I finish them. I feel like I know the characters and I am really moved by the story. Usually when I finish a book that good, I cry. When I finish a book by you, I smile. It feels like a part of me is complete inside. Its one of the best feelings I could ever had. As a young writer, I could only hope do half of what you accomplished in writing. You are truly amazing. I hope you read this and remember it as you write you next awesome book. You are a really good author. I admire you. Please please remember me. It would mean a lot.

Hi!! I have this book ( well I just saw this blog XD) And I was looking at books on Barnes and Noble.com, and I saw you had a new book, The Last Present, and I saw that the description said it was the finale! NO PLEASE DON’T STOP! I love the Willow Falls series, and it just wouldn’t be the same if I didn’t have more of your books to read! You are one of my favorite authors, and also a big inspiration to me! I WILL be getting The Last Present, and mark my words you WILL make more of those books! 🙂 I was looking to see if I could get your address to send a letter to you, but I can’t find it! Maybe I haven’t looked hard enough? Well, just know those books have a special place in my heart, and NOTHING can fill it!!!

I just finished The Last Present! Words fail me, I cannot describe my incredibly intense delight over this book!!!!! Thank-you so so much for writing this series, it has made such a big impact to me. This is definitely a book I will be reading to my cousins and children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren… After just reading the Book Thief being able to read a book with such a perfectly perfect ending was so nice. Thank-you a million bajillion times over!

I just got the Last Present yesterday and I just finished it. I know I will have it read again my Monday. The willow falls series is the best series ever and I was so sad when the book ended. Dont get me wrong I absolutely loved the ending. Especially the last sentence

    • Corinne on October 9, 2013 at 10:47 pm

(okay the rest of mine got deleted so I’m just gonna finish it now.) but I am so sad to see the characters go. I feel like I know them on a personal level because of your amazing writing. If they were real they would be my group of friends. I can just tell. I can’t explain how much these books mean to me and how much I love them. I always start and end the book with a smile on my face because, even if unexpected which normally was the case, everything fell together perfectly. They always ended just the way they should have if not better. Leo and amanda are my favorite characters ever and im going to my book project on the last present Anyway keep writing the best books ever. And hopefully even a 5 in the willow falls book. Even though now it won’t be quite the same!!

  74. Alyson on October 6, 2013 at 12:31 pm

    OH MY GOODNESS
    I GOT THE LAST PRESENT
It was such a a beautiful, tear jerking book, I couldn’t put it down.

Everything makes sense. Grace and Angelina… who would have thought? These books have made me think so much, about repaying my debts to society. If I could help everyone out the way Angelina has and Grace will then I would.

You have no idea how much I just want to move into Willow Falls and meet all the wonderful characters in your book. This series holds a special place in my heart that I will never forget. Dear Wendy, your books have made me cry to no end (in a good way!) and though I do wish you could write more and more Willow Falls books, I know The Last Present was the last one. Maybe a sequel series? *wink wink*

Wouldn’t it be fun, 50 years later, with a whole new population and a now old Grace who’s just like Angelina helping out a whole new generation of kids? 🙂 Just an idea, but I honestly can’t wait to read more of your work, Wendy Mass. Each book never fails to make me cry and think.

Best of luck to Grace, Angelina&Bucky, and all the newfound relationships.

    Love <3
    Alyson

Dang! I wrote a LONG message and it didn’t show up!!! Well i’ll just have to type it again!!! I REALLY DON’T WANT you to stop writing this series because I ADORE the books and I have the first 3 proudly sitting on my bookshelf and I am going to get the last one! (Wonder what happens:)) I love your books and I wanted to write you a letter, but I couldn’t find your address! (well that was before I saw this blog!) I love these books and I hate to see them end, but I know every good thing has to come to an end :,( Well I read the Rapunzel book from the Twice Upon a Time series, and I LOVED it, so I can get the other 2 of those books, but nothing can compare to the Willows Falls Series. Are you going to make any more books in that series? That would be GREAT! Well I just want to say THANKS for the wonderful books, and I will be coming to this page often to see if there is any more books I would like. Thank you for inspiring me!!!

I know I may be a little late but i just finished the The Last Present and I absolutely LOVED IT. When I first saw this book at my school’s book fair, my heart swelled. I just wished I could’ve gotten this book sooner but late is better than never. Anyways, when I bought the book I was so happy I could have cried. My heart just filled with so many feelings I could barely take it. This series is my most favorite and I am a little sad that it’s meeting its end… but I thoroughly enjoyed the whole entire adventure. But I still kind of hope to meet with the gang again……. It’s okay for me to have some hope, right?

    Forever your fan,
    Lily

P.S.: I’m extremely excited about The Candymakers(so sweet I thought I was going to get checked for a cavity- in a good way)and A Mango-shaped Space(this masterpiece made me cry a river). I literally can’t wait.

I just got The Last Present from my library and I’m so excited to read it! The Willow Falls series is one of the best book series’ I’ve ever read. I love the stories and the characters and how creative they are. I really love all of your amazing books, Wendy, and you are such a great author. If A Mango Shaped Space was made into a movie, I’d definitely go see it as soon as possible! That book is one of my favorite books, and I would LOVE to see that. I can’t wait for The Candymakers, too! Thank you so much. 😀

  78. Addy on October 7, 2013 at 3:49 pm

I have not read the last present yet because i have not gotten my hands on a copy. but i know it will be AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just hate it when a book series ends! I read the other three out of order- 13Gifts, !!birthdays, then finally, but they were still all so good! Whenever i finish a good book i slowly close the book and then just sit there, smiling and thinking about how it was summed up and all the little details in between. I did the exact same thing for all three of your books. After i finished 13 gifts(the first one i read) i felt so warm inside as i sat there. The very next day i took the book to school and requested it to all my friends. I literally had a list of people so i knew what order to let people read it. Everyone loved it but, unfortunately, my book got very beat up:) Only reason i don’t want to read the last present is i don’t want the series to end! You have inspired me so much Wendy! I want to be an author and i am working on 3 novels right now. i only wish they will turn out like your books did!!!!!
Sincerely, Addy *<3Wendy Mass and Willow Falls!*

    • Wendy Mass on October 8, 2013 at 10:30 am

I love how you wrote about feeling warm inside when you finished a book–what a lovely thought! My advice would be to focus on writing one book at a time rather than 3…trust me, one is hard enough. ;o)
      hugs!

    • cam on October 20, 2013 at 8:03 pm

Same here. I really need to start reading it. The only reason I haven’t yet is because when I got it I tried to read it in the car and I got motion sickness. Why do I keep reading in the car?!

  79. Clara B. on October 8, 2013 at 2:37 pm

I have read 11 Birthdays, 12 Finally, and 13 Gifts. I am getting The Last Present at the book fair and am so exited to read it! My favorite book is 12 Finally because of all the accidents. I thought it was really gross when a lot of puss came out of Rory’s ear.Are any of the accidents based on someone’s life? How did you think of them? What book are you writing right now? What is it about? I am in 4th grade. My Christmas list is full of your books. You know how the book you just wrote is called The Last Present well maybe you could write another book in that series but when she is 15 she wouldn’t get any presents. Were any of the characters based on you or anyone else? I really like reading your books and can not wait to read your response!

  80. Sarah on October 8, 2013 at 7:45 pm

Before I start this is a different Sarah. Hi Mrs Mass I am not sure what to say but let me start of by saying that you are an excellent author.I admire your work and you are an inspiration to me. I am reading the last present and am loving every minute of it. Okay I need to get this out: OH MY GOSH I LOVE YOUR WORK YOU ARE THE BEST AUTHOR EVER I REALLY WANT TO MEET YOU IF I COULD MEET ANY FAMOUS PERSON IT WOULD TOTALLY BE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry about that l just really wanted to say that. I love your willow falls series. My favorite book however is a mango shaped space. I think you should write a sequel. Also about the actor thing… I have always wanted to be in a movie. Maybe you could hook me up?S ome may call me crazy but it’s the truth I really want to be an actress. I don’t know what I would do if I never read your books. You are truly amazing!

  81. Clara B. on October 11, 2013 at 11:26 am

I also think you should write a book for every age up to 19 because I just found out that the binding spell only lasts 18 years and it willI be interesting to see how they still don’t get sick.I am so exited to read more of The Last Present!

  82. Megan on October 12, 2013 at 12:15 pm

Hi! Anyway, I just want to say you are one of my favorite authors. The first book i ever read that you wrote was A Mango Shaped Space, and from there on, i fell in love with your books. Is this the last of the Willow Fall’s books? If so, then you’ve made an excellent dream world. Amanda and Leo’s stories are my favorite, and writing another book from Amanda’s POV was a great idea. Every single character you come up with is another part of my family. You’ve changed the world for people like me who can’t fit in. Keep on writing!

I love these characters so much and am so glad that i got the opportunity to read them. Thank you so much. it was amazing. 🙂

    Hi Wendy,
I’m such a HUGE fan of your Willow Falls series!! The Last Present and the Candymakers is now at the book fair at my school and I’m getting both of them! Me and my friend are SUCH big fans and we are SO happy you made another Willow Falls book! I just want to let you know your books inspire me to do ANYTHING and I greatly appreciate that! I am so sad to see the series end, but I know The Candymakers will be just as good! Maybe in the future you could make a movie out of the Willow Falls series?? I would LOVE to see it! Your books give me such a warm feeling inside and i just want to say THANK YOU for everything! I hope in the future there will be a new edition to this series, so I can be happy all over again 🙂
I forget what I put in the last post, because it was still under moderation! I was SO MAD because it was pretty long and had some important stuff in there 🙂 Well, to sum ALL this up, just, just, just… THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!
    Love, the book lover,
    Maggie <3

I finally read The Last Present, and I must say, it is phenomenal. I first read Eleven Birthdays when I was ten, and since then, I have read the Willow Falls Series countless times. I’m fifteen now, but I can still say that your books are my favorite. I have been able to relate with Rory’s shyness at her first boy-girl party, Emily’s brainy-ness (is that even a word?), and Amanda’s worries of change as she and Leo develop a closer relationship. When I finished The Last Present, I had to go back through and reread all my favorite parts. I felt like by the end of the series, all of your characters were my best friends. (Not to mention that I had developed a serious crush on Leo) You portray these thirteen year old characters perfectly, and make them seem their age, because they aren’t expressing these serious, deep feelings that others books might show thirteen year olds to have. The relationship between Leo and Amanda makes me want to have something like that in my life. I know that the Willow Falls Series will be the books I always come back to, whether it’s a year or ten years from now, and I thank you for giving me Leo, Amanda, Rory, Tara, and Angelina, who started it all.

    • Wendy Mass on December 6, 2013 at 11:39 pm

ok, this made me cry a little (in a good way) I’m so honored that you’ve taken up residence in Willow Falls! It’s been a lot of fun for me to revisit these characters again, especially to write from Amanda’s POV when she’s over two years older. And good ol Leo. Who wouldn’t love a boy who writes poetry? ;o)
Thank you for sticking with the series for so many years. All my best wishes!!
      xoxo

Oh my god I know I’m really late on commenting but hey I always am but I just wanted to tell you that The Last Present was just…wonderful. It was literally perfect and it made me so, so SO happy reading it! I really, really hope that you will write a spin-off series because I literally would cry tears of joy!! Speaking of which I actually cried in The Last Present because the friendships in the book were so amazing and like perfect and I wish I had Amanda, Rory, Leo and Tara as friends and also because I was so sad it was the last one and because the book itself was so good and God it was amazing! Sorry I’m just ranting but it honestly was and I recommended it to all my friends and they loved it and the series too! I’m trying to become an author like you as well and one day hope I can become half as good as you! Stay amazing! 😀 xx

    • Wendy Mass on December 6, 2013 at 11:07 pm

Thank you for that lovely, heartfelt comment! It means to much to me that you felt so strongly about the book, sorry for the tears! I’m sure if you want to be a writer that you will make it happen. Have a wonderful holiday season and keep reading (and writing!) :o)

    Wendy,
You are the best author EVER!!!!!:-) 🙂 🙂 I read all your books except The Last Present, and I bought all your books. There sitting there on my bookshelf every day, and it’s like there saying,”Read me again and again!” Your books are like the only books that I ever read!!! When I reread your books, I feel like I’ve never read that book before, and it’s never boring to reread your books… I can never get out of the couch once I start reading your books. Hey, maybe I’m a couch mass-bookworm!!!
(Get it? Instead of couch potato) At school, when I read your books, I never know what the teacher is saying once I get my nose stuck in the book!!!;) Once, we were going to lunch, but I was so absorbed into A Mango-Shaped Space that I didn’t get my lunch box out of my locker until my teacher tapped on me!!! (It was so embarrassing!!!) Later, I kept on talking about synesthesia to my BFF!!!
    Boy, Ms. Mass, your books are so good!!!!!:-) 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I FINISHED THE LAST PRESENT!!!!! I DONT KNOW WHAT I WILL DO WITHOUT ANYMORE WILLOW FALLS BOOKS! My friend Amanda was the one who introduced me to 11 birthdays but know she moved to Washington and I haven’t heard from her in a while. When I read your books I always think about her. Is there any way you could write more in the series ???? Or make a movie???? I would be so happy! Thanks for writing my favorite book series of all time!
    Please write back,
    Your fan,

    • Wendy Mass on January 2, 2014 at 10:02 pm

Hi Kaylee! I wonder if Amanda found 11 Birthdays before she knew she was the main character. :o). Maybe you should write to her, I’m sure she’d love to hear from you. I’m glad you like the series and i’ll keep an open mind about more, i promise.
      Happy 2014!

Hi. I just wanted to say that I read your book 13 gifts a year or two ago (after reading your first two books) I absolutely loved it and wanted to read the next book. I looked for it but was very dissappointed when I couldn’t find it. I gave up and forgot about it,13 gifts was left, abandoned, on my shelf for a couple years. Until today I had a sudden urge to read it. So when I finsihed it of course I went online to try to find the next book. I was surprised to find out it came out on my thirteenth birthday. I thought it was a very cool coincidence and wish I would have known about it earlier. But of course, being Wendy Mass, you’re probably thinking “there are no coincidences in Willow Falls” 🙂 Now I’m very excited to get “The Last Present” and read, but I’m also a little scared, finsihing it will be like saying goodbye to a good friend. Thanks in advance for a great read!

I can not tell you how amazing you and your books are. The Willow Falls series is my favorite of all time!
I’ve read the books over and over but can’t get enough of them! Please tell me your not going to end the series, that would be a nightmare for me, i can’t imagine! Your characters are so realistic, sometimes I feel as if they are really my friends. It would be amazing to have friends like that!

You are my favorite author and always will be… no matter how old i get.

Thank you for your magic: )

okay, so august and september i was reading 11 birthdays and i thought it was amazing and when i heard about finally i was like “yes, another book!” but i didn’t get to reading until about 3 weeks ago. i loved it, i laughed and it was so great. it was done in less than a week. but i got 13 gifts for Chirstmas so right away i was reading through that. i go it done in about 5 to 7 days and less than one minute later after i finish, my nose was in the Last Present. and i got it done in two days. all last night (i barely slept) i was happy that i got it done so fast (i’ve never read a book that fast) so so freaking out! the title “the LAST present” gave me the hint that it was to last book. please! i beg of you! DO NOT QUIT THE WILLOW FALLS SERIES. i love your books so much. they are funny, well written (EXTREMLY well written) and totally AWESOME!!!!

I love your books so much! I wish you would keep writing, I love reading and use to to write tons of small little ten page books when I was five. I wouldn’t know what to do with out them, my other favorite writer Rick Rioradan is writing his last Percy Jackson book there really awesome just as good as your books its coming out September and I cant wait, but I don’t know which is sadder you stopping the willow falls series or him stopping Percy Jackson it makes me want to cry.

PS. I think David and Tara make a cute couple.

Hi Wendy I love your books. I have no idea why I freaked out so much when I read them.i love how you reuse the same characters.i usually don’t like it when people reuse characters but the way you write your books make me love it. So far I’ve only read 11birthdays, finally, 13 gifts, mango shaped space, and the candy makers. My favorite is 13gifts and the candy makers. I felt so sad when I finished the candy makers. When I finished 13gift I felt sad too, but then I looked at the back of the book and saw the last present. I Am so in love with you books that I couldn’t stop reading them. I kept reading them until I realized that it was around 11 at night. I finished the books in around two days even though my teacher said to read it in five days, but I obviously didn’t listen to her. I can’t wait to read the last present. I’m going to ask my mom if she can take me to the book store so I can buy it. – so happy- write back soon. <3 an awesome fan a.k.a Cynthia herna

  105. Sara on March 16, 2014 at 7:42 pm

Wendy Mass, You have done it again! The Last Present was everything I was looking for. I really enjoyed that the characters have acted their age. They are not all serious about romantic relationships at 11 years old. I also enjoyed the characters. They were always simply their selves ( Not to mention I had a huge crush on Leo and David). At the end, I felt like the characters were looking over my shoulder, reading with me. I had felt my best friend was Amanda. I wish there were more books in the Willow Falls series. I will always remember the warm felling it gave me. This book will not be one I ever forget.

  106. Cynthia Hernandez on March 19, 2014 at 12:28 am

Omg I’ve done it again. I read the last present in 2 days. I literally cryed when it ended. If you make a movie out of it can I be Tara or Rory. Then again I’m not the actress looking type. Anyways you’ve done it again wendy, it’s the best book in the world ( that is in my heart) . So does Amanda and Leo date and what about Rory and jake and Tara and David. To they grow up and marry because that will cute.

Hey! I know this is probably late. I don’t know if anyone will read this, but I absolutely loved the series and am reading it for the second time. Please, please, please, please, please, please write another book in the series. I am sooooooooooo sad that the series ended. I’ve liked the book so much that I feel like I would want Amanda, Leo, Rory, Tara, and David to be my friends. I want to go on adventures like those with them. I started reading 11 Birthdays in fifth grade ( I’m now in sixth grade ) when my reading teacher let us choose the books we wanted to read. The choices were 11 Birthdays, A Mango Shaped Space, and The Candy Makers. I chose 11 Birthdays. Anyway… Long story short, I read it and I LOVED it. I learned that there was a series and started reading it then stopped. I started reading them again last week and finished them in less than a week. Again I would really, really, really, like it if you wrote another one. Please…….

Well, if you’re offering chocolate chip pancakes…but alas, Graceful is the last book in the series (but never say never, I suppose! Willow falls is an unexpected place!). Sending big hugs to you and your willow falls-loving friends, you guys ROCK!!! xo Wendy

  136. WhiteSheAlpha on October 17, 2017 at 8:52 pm

This is my favorite book series, esp. on audio and I don’t like reading or books that much. I just read Graceful, are you going to write more of the series or is Graceful the last one? I hope that its not!

    • Wendy Mass on April 24, 2018 at 8:52 pm

Graceful is the final book–for now. I love to hear you enjoyed the books on audible. Not many write me regarding that format. I LOVE audio books too. Happy listening! xo

  137. Laura on January 1, 2019 at 1:37 am

I only started reading these books about a month ago and the Willow Falls Series has gone right up to the top of my “favourite book list” (thats like tying with Harry Potter so congrats) ????????
I have read all the books exept for graceful which I can’t manage to get hold of. I love your style of writing and sense of humour.
Please, please, please make a movie out of these books even though your fan club might have shrunken a bit since 2013 I’m sure it will grow again.
    – From your biggest fan: Laura

    • Wendy Mass on October 24, 2020 at 8:37 pm

So glad you discovered Willow Falls and thank you for putting it in such good company 🙂 I would love for there to be a movie or TV series with each year being one of the books. I may need some of that Willow Falls magic to make that happen, though. I hope by now you have found Graceful and liked the way the series wrapped up. Big hugs to you! Wendy

  138. Avory on April 11, 2020 at 12:14 am

OMG Wendy Mass, you have to write another book for this series! It’s so amazing! I’ve been waiting for a book after graceful and I’ve practically memorized 11 Birthdays! Please? at least one more book? I need to know what happened after Team Grace stopped the Vortex (I mean the full story) You’ve got me hooked on that series and I need more of it.

    • Wendy Mass on October 24, 2020 at 5:25 pm

You’re so funny about memorizing 11 Birthdays! I’m glad you enjoyed the series so much, and I do sometimes think about the idea of an offshoot where the magic starts in another town, but for now, I’ve been working on some graphic novels, and that takes a lot of time. I’ll definitely announce it if I’m going to write more Willows Falls though. Thanks so much for reading them 🙂 Hugs, Wendy

  139. Kaitlyn on July 17, 2020 at 4:05 pm

    For Wendy Mass:
The Willow Falls series means everything to me, and It depresses me that it’s apparently ended. Please keep it going. 🙁 These are my favorite books. And I love Tara, David, Rory, Amanda, Leo, and Grace + Connor! Tara and David belong together. And I’d like the story continue even
though they are adults. And with their families and friends/each other. The magic needs to continue forever.. Thank you very much for reading this and please respond and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE- keep the series going… Thanks…

    • Wendy Mass on October 23, 2020 at 2:52 pm

Wow, that was so sweet and amazing. I really loved writing these books and it means so much to me to hear how much they mean to you. My daughter and I have been brainstorming some ideas starring the main characters’ children, but as of now, there isn’t anything specific in the works. Fingers crossed for a film or TV show though. But I will definitely announce it here if that changes. You’ve made me want to go back and reread them now LOL. All my best to you. Hugs, Wendy

      • Kei on January 29, 2022 at 1:01 pm

Omg starring the daughter of Amanda and Leo! And they could be friends with Tara and David, Rory, Grace, Jake, and Connor’s kids!!! That would be the absolute most amazing thing ever to me!!! I love the Willow Falls book series and it is by far my most favorite series, also a movie(s) and tv show would be AMAZING!!! You are the besttt!!!

  140. Manasvi on October 2, 2020 at 12:28 pm

    • Wendy Mass on October 23, 2020 at 2:14 pm

I’ve been conspiring with my daughter to possibly write another book to the series. A movie or TV series would be great, I’ll be sure to let you know if that happens. 🙂 Wendy.

    • Wendy Mass on August 2, 2022 at 1:50 pm

Hi! Fingers crossed in hope for a movie! As for a sequel, I’m really thinking about it…the “flash forward” at the end of Graceful tells a bit about their future at least. Have a great summer xo, Wendy

  143. Riley on February 7, 2022 at 10:06 pm

    Hey Wendy!
Okay, its two years after 2020, has anything with films come up yet?! Well me and my sis really want some movies but of course if you can’t make that happen its totally fine! I read the whole series about 10 zillion times a month anyway! And that means..I don’t know how many times a year but that means that I Love your book. Oh yeah, there’s also a video on YouTube where it shows some actors and actresses that are totally way too old now but it helps me imagine how they look bwtter. And also, if you do make another book when they are adults, I suggest Amanda’s pov. She’s really funny and fun-loving(aka what you must be!). Anyways, I would love to meet you some day and please keep us posted on movies and/or book! Bye have a good day! Tomorrow I’m gonna beg my mom to find some starburst candy corn😁

    • Wendy Mass on August 2, 2022 at 1:41 pm

ALAS, nope. Still hoping though and I promise I’ll post if news happens. You and your sister are keeping my hopes up!!
